The New Frozen Editions of the H. Moser Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic
Midnight Blue or Matrix Green... with a hand-sculpted frosted finish that catches the light and the eye.
The Streamliner collection was introduced by H. Moser & Cie in 2020 and was an overnight success. Its groovy integrated cushion design was fresh, original and brilliantly executed. Since its inception, we’ve seen a wide range of time-only, perpetual calendar, tourbillon and chronograph models, and even several fascinating skeletonised iterations. Moser also loves to play around with materials, colours and textures for the Streamliner, resulting in some very delectable combinations. New for this year is a pair of updated Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic with frozen dials, mixing textures and colours.
The Streamliner, including these new Flyback Chronograph Automatic Frozen, wouldn’t be the same without its curvy exterior, so we’re still dealing with the 42.3mm wide by 14.2mm tall case in either stainless steel or 5N rose gold. The finishing is still a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, and it has retained its trademark 10-and-2 chronograph pushers. The angled crown at 4 o’clock cuts into the case ever so slightly, and two sapphire crystals sandwich the dial and movement.
Speaking of the dial, that is exactly what’s new for this pair of Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic Frozen. Combining styles and colours from previous Moser watches, also from the Endeavour and Pioneer collections, they look quite stunning. The rose gold Streamliner Flyback Chronograph gets a midnight blue dial, while the steel Streamliner has one of the brand’s signature colours; Matrix green.
And Moser being Moser, the brand serves up something more than just colour. The Midnight Blue or Matrix Green dials have a hand-engraved frosted texture. The fumé finish is typical to the brand, with the texture and indications protected by tinted lacquers. The dials darken towards the outer edge, with a tachymeter scale on the inner flange to enhance its automotive looks. The central hour and minute hands have Globolights inserts and are joined by a pair of central chronograph hands. One for the minutes, in gold or steel, and one for the seconds lacquered in red. For the rest, there’s no loud branding, no Swiss Made or anything, except for the barely visible H. Moser & Cie. logo in transparent lacquer. And frankly, there’s no need as this is immediately recognizable as a Moser.
With such an exquisite exterior, you need something special on the interior, and the Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic Frozen doesn’t disappoint. It relies on the Calibre HMC 907, which is developed with Agenhor and is a superbly constructed integrated automatic column-wheel chronograph with flyback functionality. The construction and the look of the chronograph display are quite unique, and while not developed at first for the brand, it feels very Moser. The clean display befits the brand’s design language perfectly, with two central hands to indicate the chronograph minutes and seconds and no sub-dials. When not in use, the two hands perfectly overlap, minimising the look of the Streamliner Chronograph even more.
The movement has no less than 434 parts and runs at a rate of 21,600vph. For this gen-2 Streamliner Flyback Chronograph, the movement has been reworked a touch, to deliver 72 hours of power reserve instead of 54 hours. The finishing has also been updated over the previous generation, including Moser stripes angled at 45 degrees and anthracite rhodium-plated mainplate and bridges. And for those left scratching their heads where the rotor is, it is sandwiched between the dial and movement. This movement is also equipped with an innovative construction, specifically its coupling system – more on this in this article.
These new Streamliners come on either the typical wavey steel integrated bracelet with a folding clasp or an integrated black rubber strap for the gold variant. As is custom to Moser, they’re not limited by number per se but produced for a limited time only. The steel model is priced at CHF 47,000 and the gold version at CHF 62,000 (prices without taxes).
