The Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase Skeleton in Steel & Blue
The brand's signature chronograph gets a more technical look.
The latest evolution of the Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase moves from classical to a more technical, contemporary appearance. One of the brand‘s most recognisable models, this new version introduces an openworked dial and a fresh “Steel Blue” colour, bringing modern dynamism and versatility to an otherwise familiar watch.
The Belisar line has always combined good-quality watchmaking with practical complications, and recent updates have refined its proportions and ergonomics. This new reference continues along that path; it is presented in a stainless steel case, 42mm in diameter, 14.8mm thick, and 50.6mm lug-to-lug. The screwed-on case flanks, rounded rectangular pushers, and fluted crown are retained to maintain the collection’s identity. Water resistance is rated at 100m.
The dial of the Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase here features an openworked design, giving the watch a far more technical appearance. The hexagonal pattern inspired by classic car radiator grilles reveals parts of the movement beneath. This new look provides a certain rhythm to the dial and adds to the watch’s technical appeal. The new Steel Blue tone plays an important role, too, allowing light to interact with the openworked layers and bringing out the design’s almost industrial character.
Despite this increased visual complexity, legibility remains controlled. The applied indices and peripheral minute track are coated with Super-LumiNova; the three-dimensional-printed numerals glow across their entire surfaces, without outlines. Nickel-plated hands, also luminescent, provide good contrast against the layered background. The display retains the characteristic layout of the model: chronograph counters, day and month indications, central date hand and moon phase are all clearly organised.
The watch is powered by the calibre UNG-25.S1, an automatic movement developed and assembled in Glashütte. Based on the Valjoux 7751 architecture, it has been upgraded with a silicon balance spring for improved resistance to magnetic interference and greater stability in daily wear. The movement delivers a power reserve of at least 65 hours and operates via a cam-actuated chronograph system. A corrector at 10 o’clock allows adjustment of the calendar functions. The stop-seconds mechanism helps with precise time setting.
The Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase Skeleton Steel Blue is offered with a stainless steel bracelet, featuring finely finished links and a double-folding clasp with push buttons. The watch is available in the permanent collection, with a retail price of EUR 3,700 (incl. VAT).
