The Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Sport on Steel Bracelet
The brand’s take on a contemporary sports chronograph, now reinforced by a nicely integrated steel bracelet.
Union Glashütte continues to position itself in the segment of robust, fairly-priced mechanical chronographs with a distinctly modern look. The Belisar Chronograph Sport, introduced in 2024 as a more contemporary alternative within the Belisar collection, marked a departure from vintage cues. It now evolves with the addition of a stainless steel bracelet, enhancing its presence and versatility.
The watch retains the Belisar line signature muscular proportions. The 43mm stainless steel case, measuring 14.65mm thick, features the hallmark screwed flanks of the line, here coated in black DLC. These elements extend beneath the lugs, creating a subtle dark outline that visually slims the case. A black ceramic bezel with tachymeter scale highlights the sporting character. Design equals functionality. The crown with the brand’s “U” logo is flanked by rectangular pushers engraved with Start/Stop and Reset markings, filled with black lacquer. A third corrector at 10 o’clock allows for quick date adjustment, an uncommon but practical feature. The case is topped with a domed sapphire crystal, features a sapphire caseback and is 100m water-resistant.
The dial is rendered in black with horizontal embossed grooves. This textured backdrop features a tri-compax layout: 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6, with a discreetly integrated date, and small seconds at 9. Yellow tip on the central chronograph seconds hand and yellow chrono sub-dial hands add sporty contrast. Applied indices and skeletonised hands filled with Super-LumiNova ensure clear reading. The Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Sport is powered by the calibre UNG-27.S1, an automatic cam-operated chronograph based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture. Equipped with a silicon balance spring, it offers improved resistance to magnetism. Autonomy is a minimum of 65 hours.
The key update, which changes the model’s look, is the new three-link stainless steel bracelet. With alternating polished and brushed surfaces, it integrates seamlessly with the case and enhances the watch’s overall coherence. The watch is offered with an additional black textile strap with a yellow underside. Both options are equipped with a quick-change system. The price is EUR 4,100. That’s a handsome watch and not ridiculously priced either.
that’s a small watch at 3mm 😀
I love this watch, but find a small problem for my personal taste- the use of a movement based on the ETA 7751 using the Cam for the Chrono controls. Commonly, many companies modify this movement by substituting the Cam by a Column Wheel. But that was not done here, presumably to maintain costs low. But I would love to see this model with a Column Wheel, a Vertical Clutch, and also with Silicon Escape Wheel, all of them within the same movement. That would be so sweet, but also very expensive, but if someone can do that, is Glasshutte!!!!
So, the question is and remains, how come Union Glashütte is still not available in the USA?
