The New Briston Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean, with Wave-Textured Dials
Two new versions of the Clubmaster Legend Diver with their cool textures, and not surprisingly, Briston’s signature acetate case is part of the package too.
French brand Briston is known for its accessible sports watches that are easy-going and fun to wear, and the new Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean takes that same route. Much of the brand’s identity comes from the use of cellulose acetate cases, the same material often used for sunglasses, and on top of it, this is mixed with colourful dials and the square-cushion Clubmaster design. It gives Briston watches a more casual feel than the usual affordable dive or sports watch. Over the years, this design direction has helped Briston create its own little space in a segment where vintage-inspired divers can sometimes start feeling a bit repetitive.
The Clubmaster Legend range already includes everything from the Diver and Compressor to the cleaner Classic, the more elegant Petite Seconde, and the skeletonised Classic Open. All of them retain the same cambered-square Clubmaster case profile that gives these watches personality. Joining this line-up now is the Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean, available with either an Arctic White or an Ocean Blue dial. The watch shows a more summery look built around wave-pattern dials, colourful lume, and Briston’s signature acetate case.
The acetate version of the Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean really is the one that catches the eye. Briston pairs the Arctic White dial with a tortoiseshell-style acetate case, while the Ocean Blue version comes in brushed steel. The acetate model is more playful on the wrist, while the steel case gives the watch a more rugged look. Unlike regular resin cases, the acetate case here has a slightly translucent look, almost like those warm-coloured old-school sunglasses frames. You will also notice the coin-edged bezel and a date window at 3 o’clock.
Since the new Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean is a diver at the end of the day, it features 200m water-resistance, a screw-down crown, and a sapphire bezel in navy blue with luminous markings. The case measures 40mm by 40mm, and the thickness is a little over 13mm. Paired with the white FKM strap on the white model and the navy blue strap on the blue version, the whole package has a design that stays clean and simple.
Briston then adds quite a lot of colour and detail to the rest of the watch. Its crown insert matches the central seconds hand, while the light blue inner ring shows the 60-second scale. The semi-glossy wave-patterned dials use a laser-engraved texture that gives the surface more depth than a flat dial. There are polished round hour markers filled with green Super-LumiNova C5, while the large 6, 9, and 12 numerals use BGW9 lume instead. Briston also pairs baton-style hour hands and arrow minute hands with light blue luminous inserts, while the central seconds hand and crown insert come in blue on the white model and light green on the blue version.
The watch takes its power from the Japanese Miyota 8315 automatic movement, running at 21,600 vibrations/hour and offering up to 60 hours of power reserve. It is a reliable choice for a watch sitting in this price range, keeping the Clubmaster Legend Diver Ocean in the accessible dive watch territory. Prices start at EUR 850 for the acetate version and EUR 875 for the brushed steel model.
