The Sand-Coloured TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Limited Edition
A sandy colourway and rally-inspired details for TAG Heuer's new Carrera chronograph.
TAG Heuer has been having a lot of fun with the Carrera Chronograph Glassbox lately. Blue, panda, reverse panda, and purple versions have all brought a different style to the table. More recently, TAG Heuer also added teal green and black dials to the new-generation 41mm models, and the latest addition heads in yet another direction. Let’s meet the Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition: a European-market release that swaps the usual blue, black, or silver tones for a warm sand-coloured dial paired with darker chronograph registers.
The watch is based on the 39mm Carrera Chronograph Glassbox platform, so of course it features the highly domed sapphire crystal inspired by the curved acrylic crystals fitted to early Carrera models, which ultimately gave rise to the Glassbox nickname. What makes the crystal stand out even more is the absence of a bezel. The Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition wears a 39mm x 13.9mm stainless steel case, which combines brushed and polished surfaces and is fitted with a steel crown and round pump-style chronograph pushers. A sapphire caseback reveals the movement, and the whole package is water-resistant up to 100 metres.
TAG Heuer has gone for a finely grained sand-coloured dial, paired with anthracite azuré chronograph counters and a matching anthracite tachymeter flange. Rhodium-plated applied markers and hands stand out clearly against the dial, and the date display appears at six o’clock. Its tricompax layout shows counters at three and nine o’clock, while the running seconds display sits at six o’clock and is finished in silver. Beige lacquered hands on the chronograph registers match the colour of the dial, while the anthracite flange and chronograph counters create a strong contrast against the lighter background.
Powering the Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition is the TH20-00 automatic chronograph movement. An evolution of the Heuer 02, the in-house automatic integrated chronograph uses a column wheel and vertical clutch architecture. This self-winding engine runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and delivers a power reserve of around 80 hours.
The watch is worn on a beige calfskin strap and comes with the perforations that are traditionally associated with racing straps. It is secured by a steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons and an engraved TAG Heuer shield. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Limited Edition is limited to 500 pieces for the European market and priced at EUR 7,900.

7,900? Really TAG!!!
It’s too thick anyway. Would’ve been nice to see a thinner baseline of the chronograph if they’re going to disperse so many variations from it.
