TAG Heuer, Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department reunite for a second limited edition, this time based on the 39mm Carrera Glassbox Chronograph.
Three years after the launch of the original 42mm Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford, TAG Heuer renews its collaboration with a new limited edition, this time based on the brand’s modern 39mm Carrera Glassbox Chronograph and inspired by Team Ikuzawa’s iconic Roadmaster stopwatches of the 1970s and 1980s.
The story of Team Ikuzawa is well known among motorsport enthusiasts. Founded by legendary Japanese racing driver Tetsu Ikuzawa, whose career spanned the Japanese Grand Prix, Formula 3, Formula 2, Le Mans, and Porsche factory drives, the team became recognised for its distinctive red-and-white colours and uncompromising racing spirit. Nowadays, Mai Ikuzawa has transformed that heritage into a cultural phenomenon, blending motorsport, design, fashion and luxury through collaborations. This latest TAG Heuer Carrera brings the team’s colours into one of the brand’s most attractive modern chronographs.
The watch is based on the Carrera Glassbox Chronograph, arguably one of TAG Heuer’s most successful recent releases. Introduced in 2023, the Glassbox revived the proportions and legibility of Jack Heuer’s original Carrera, while adding a beautifully domed sapphire crystal that extends over the sloping flange, without the need for a conventional bezel. Here, the finely brushed and polished 39mm stainless steel case remains unchanged; the crown at 3 o’clock, with a red lacquered ring, is flanked by vintage-style pushers. On the sapphire caseback, engravings from Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department accompany the individual number. Water resistance is 100m.
The dial is finished in white with a Clou de Paris texture and recalls Team Ikuzawa’s historic racing colours, as well as the graphics of the Roadmaster timing instruments that inspired the project. Unlike the standard Carrera Glassbox, the applied hour indices have been replaced with printed markings for a stopwatch-like aesthetic. As with the 42mm Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa, red accents dominate. The colour appears on the logos, the lacquered hour and minutes hands, the central chronograph seconds hand, and even the angled date wheel, where every numeral is printed in Team Ikuzawa’s signature colour.
Just like the first collaborative watch, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa dispenses with the running seconds display found on most Carrera chronographs, allowing the Team Ikuzawa signature to be printed above the date window at six o’clock. The display keeps a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, recalling vintage Heuer racing chronographs that often reserved dial space for sponsors and racing teams. The tachymetre scale is absent.
The automatic TH20-10 chronograph movement with an 80-hour power reserve is derived from TAG Heuer’s latest in-house architecture, featuring a column wheel, vertical clutch and an efficient bi-directional winding system. The watch is worn on the new seven-row steel bracelet, and TAG Heuer supplies two additional straps: a perforated white leather strap with red stitching and a white textile strap with red stripes that references Team Ikuzawa’s historic racing livery. Each watch is delivered in a mechanics’ toolbox-like package, complete with a travel pouch and a set of Team Ikuzawa charms.
