Revisiting Maen’s Coolest Integrated Sports Watch, the Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin with Blue Tuscan Dial
One of the best-value integrated sports watches is back in production, and it's every bit as compelling as we remembered.
The Maen Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin is one of the brand‘s signature series. The recent boutique-exclusive Blue Fumé edition sold out almost immediately, while the textured blue model proved equally popular, disappearing from the catalogue for a time. Responding to demand, Maen has now brought it back into production, giving fans another chance to experience what is arguably the nicest watch in the Manhattan collection. And that’s also the occasion for us to revisit this cool, accessible integrated sports watch.
The Series
The Manhattan has become Maen’s signature collection over the past few years. Inspired by the sharp, geometric sports watches of the 1970s without feeling like a direct homage to any single icon, it has steadily evolved in design and execution. The Ultra-Thin version was the biggest step forward, reducing the case height dramatically while introducing a more refined manual-winding movement and an entirely new dial design.
The Case and Bracelet
At 37mm across, 47.4mm lug-to-lug and just 7.1mm thick, the Manhattan wears with the elegance and ease that only genuinely slim watches can offer. The reduction from the original automatic model’s 9.3mm thickness makes it a totally different watch. It sits close to the wrist, disappears under a cuff when needed, all while retaining enough presence to feel like a modern sports watch, not a dress piece. Water resistance is 100m, making this more versatile than its elegant appearance might suggest.
The case design remains one of Manhattan’s strongest assets, especially if you are into non-round shapes. The octagonal bezel, alternating brushed and polished surfaces and clean transitions give it a crisp quality that punches well above its price point. The integrated bracelet strengthens the impression. It flows naturally from the case, tapering towards the concealed deployant clasp. The short links allow it to wrap comfortably around the wrist, while the four visible screws securing the bracelet through the caseback accentuate the vintage-inspired engineering.
The Dial
Unlike the boutique-exclusive fumé edition, this blue version retains the hammered “Tuscan” texture that has become synonymous with the 37 Ultra-Thin collection. Inspired by the rare Tuscan dials of the 1990s, the stamped surface plays with light, providing the blue colour with unexpected character. Depending on the angle, it shifts between vibrant electric blue and darker navy tones. And the textured finish prevents it from ever appearing flat.
Large applied indices and faceted hands with Super-LumiNova maintain appropriate legibility. The small seconds display at 6 o’clock is framed inside an octagonal sub-dial that echoes the bezel shape. It brings a bit of vintage flavour that the centre-seconds automatic versions (Manhattan 37 and Manhattan 39 Ultra-Thin) lack. The absence of a date keeps the dial symmetrical, allows the texture to remain largely uninterrupted, and should please those opposed to the date function.
The Power
Earlier versions of the Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin relied on the ETA Peseux 7001, but production has since transitioned to the La Joux-Perret D100, an enhanced clone of the previous calibre. The movement has the lean build necessary for the 7.1mm case while offering modern finishing and a 50-hour power reserve, operating at 21,600 vibrations/hour. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the hand-wound calibre is attractively decorated and provides an enjoyable daily distraction.
Availability and Price
With grey (M2.2.4), salmon (M2.2.3), and green (M2.2.2) dial versions in stock and shipping immediately, the blue M2.2.1 is currently in production, with deliveries scheduled to commence mid-July. The price is EUR 1,449 (VAT included); the optional (EUR 149) black FKM rubber strap can easily transform the Maen Manhattan 37 Ultra-Thin from office to weekend wear without sacrificing its refined personality. The watch remains one of the strongest value propositions in the category, proof that thoughtful design matters just as much as specifications, and the popularity of the collection speaks for itself.
