The Hanhart Aquasphere Dive Watch, now in Matte Black

In 2024, German brand Hanhart went beyond its traditional pilot’s watches with the Aquasphere, a dive watch that combined robust specifications with the brand’s distinctive design. The new Aquasphere Matte Black, fundamentally unchanged, brings a darker, more restrained execution that emphasises functionality over flair. It swaps the original blue colourway with a black and white palette accented by Hanhart’s signature red details.

The 42mm stainless steel case remains identical to the existing Aquasphere models, measuring 42mm in diameter, 12.95mm thick and 49mm lug-to-lug. Alternating satin-brushed, polished and matt-finished surfaces make the otherwise straightforward design more interesting. The black ceramic bezel rotates unidirectionally through 60 clicks and features Hanhart’s distinctive stencil numerals, with a red marker at 12 o’clock. The case is water-resistant to 300m, fitted with a screw-down crown protected by guards, a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock for saturation diving, and a screw-down caseback engraved with an underwater scene.

The news is the matt black dial. A silver-coloured rehaut frames it, the applied hour markers (Arabic at 12 o’clock) and the broad hands are filled with Super-LumiNova C1 GL X2. The central seconds hand receives a red tip, maintaining the brand’s recognisable colour accent. 

Powering the Aquasphere Matte Black is either a Sellita SW200-1 or a Soprod P024, depending on the production batch. Both are ETA 2824 alternatives; these automatic movements operate at 28,800 vibrations/hour, offer hacking seconds and deliver a power reserve of at least 38 hours. Every movement is regulated by Hanhart in Gütenbach to the brand’s in-house standard of between 0 and +8 seconds per day, averaged across six positions.

The Aquasphere Matte Black is available with three wearing options. Buyers can choose the lightweight elastic Hook Strap, an FKM rubber strap with a folding clasp, or a stainless steel bracelet equipped with a tool-free micro-adjustment system and quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes.
