Hanhart Pioneer One Pilot Watch

Founded in 1882, Hanhart can look back on a long watchmaking tradition. The brand is known for crafting robust and functional watches and is appreciated by fans of vintage watches for its pilot watches/chronographs from the 1930s to 1950s. The Pioneer collection was launched in 2011 with this long-lasting tradition in mind. The historical inspiration for this line comes more specifically from a model from the 1950s, the 417 ES Flyback (Cal. 42). The Black Forest manufacturer now launches the Pioneer One, a stylish yet affordable time-only pilot watch with vintage charm.

Born for utilitarian purposes, the Pioneer One focuses on functionality. The dial of this no-nonsense timepiece places emphasis on legibility. It is simple and clean: all displays are clearly arranged with luminescent numerals and discernible hands – the contrast between all the elements is excellent. Available in white or black, it is easy to consult at a glance.

The round case features a fluted bi-directional rotating bezel with a red index. This Hanhart signature feature allows you to time events. The large fluted crown allows for an easy and secure operation – even with gloves. The sapphire crystal comes with an internal anti-reflective coating. Measuring 42mm in diameter and with elongated lugs, it will fit most wrist sizes. It is made out of stainless steel and is water-resistant to 100m.

The Pioneer One is powered by the tried and tested Sellita SW200. This automatic movement indicates hours, minutes, seconds and the date. It can store up to 38 hours of power reserve. Visible via the screw-down exhibition case back, the rotor is personalised with a Hanhart engraving.

The brown calfskin leather strap with off-white stitching and rivets is secured to the wrist with a steel pin buckle. All in all, the vintage-flavoured Hanhart Pioneer One offers excellent value for money at just EUR 890. It is a pragmatic, functional watch, in line with its aviation instrument background. Plus, it will look good with just about everything. For more information, please visit pioneerone.hanhart.com.

  2. My parents gave me a Hanhart stopwatch back in high school (1967) because I ran track.
I was impressed with it’s durability—works fine today.
The large crown and visibility pushes me over the edge too.
