The Beaubleu Ecce Figura

The French microbrand’s first shaped watch with multiple dial and case finishes retains its signature circular hands.

| By Erik Slaven | 2 min read |

Beaubleu is a young brand founded in 2017, but it quickly established a unique style with circular hour, minute and seconds hands within a round case. Designed and assembled in Paris, the watches have a style that’s unmistakably Beaubleu. The latest collection, Ecce Figura, follows its round Ecce collection from 2023 and presents the circular hands within a new rectangular case, although the corners are shaped a bit to create a semi-octagonal form. There are six models with different dial designs and two case finishes (steel or PVD-gold coating), bringing a nice variety to the latest collection.

The polished and brushed stainless steel case is 39mm x 30mm and only 8.6mm in height, so it is ideal for a wide variety of wrists. The shape is rectangular with what initially looks like curved corners, but they have flat(ish) sections between rounded edges to create a long octagon of sorts. The main bezel rises from a concave outer bezel, creating a unique multi-dimensional case front.

Both bezels follow the octagonal shape of the case itself. The crown is signed with Beaubleu’s logo of overlapping circles, and a sapphire crystal protects the dial. The case back is solid and secured with four corner screws, and an optional engraving is available. All models come standard with colour-matching mesh bracelets with quick-release levers.

There are six distinctive dial designs with a three-dimensional dial that appears to have indices and surrounding details machined on a thicker blank, while two other options have either printed or applied indices. Dial colours include white, black, blue, silver and gold, and the six models are Ecce Figura Lys, Onyx, Smalt, Alba, Vesperal and Sienna – the latter two have applied indices with a steel (Vesperal) or gold (Sienna) case and dial.

The defining aesthetic is the trio of circular hands that are again seen throughout Beaubleu’s portfolio, which provides a sense of style and whimsy to an otherwise serious aesthetic. Reading the time remains easy (after a quick adjustment), and colours help separate/identify the hands.

Powering the Ecce Figura collection is a Miyota 9015 automatic with 24 jewels, 28,800vph (4Hz) and a power reserve of 42 hours. Functions include central hours, minutes and hacking seconds, and there’s also a date that isn’t utilised on any of the six models. Debuting in 2009, this Miyota has an accuracy rating of -10/+30 seconds per day.

The new Beaubleu Ecce Figura is available from EUR 890, which isn’t bad considering the unique design of the cases and dials.

  1. Beautiful case, killer value, awful hands. It’s cute to get creative, but when it’s hard to actually read the time, what’s point?
