An overall familiar themed chronograph, with a stronger sense of place and history.
Chopard, the Official Timekeeper and World Sponsor of the famous Italian endurance rally since 1988, has released countless chronographs inspired by the Mille Miglia race, its drivers and its iconic route. The Raticosa Pass has already been honoured once before, with a limited-edition series in 2021, and this 2026 Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Raticosa pays tribute to the road with a notably different version. The biggest changes come in the form of a warmer, more vintage-inspired dial and an entirely new engraved caseback, giving this latest Raticosa a stronger sense of place and history.
The Lucent Steel Case
The case, measuring 40.5mm in diameter and 12.88mm thick, is made from Chopard’s Lucent Steel, with brushed and polished finishes that suit the watch’s nature. It has balanced proportions and is comfortable on the wrist, like all recent versions of this watch, which was updated in 2023 with a smaller case. The glass-box sapphire crystal adds to the vintage character, and the welded lugs reinforce the classic look. Car-inspired references, like the knurled pushers and the crown with the steering-wheel motif, are present without becoming excessive.
Different from the 2021 Raticosa is the caseback. Instead of the previous edition’s display back, the solid titanium caseback now depicts a historic racing car climbing the Raticosa Pass, surrounded by spectators, almost like an old postcard. It gives the watch a stronger narrative connection to the road that inspired it. Water resistance is rated at 50m.
A Softer Dial
This Mille Miglia Raticosa sports a matte eggshell dial, and with beige Super-LumiNova Arabic numerals, black-printed scales, and a tri-compax layout, it feels closer to a vintage chronograph than a modern racing watch. The red-tipped chronograph seconds hand and Mille Miglia arrow provide a welcome contrast. The central hours and minutes hands indicate the time; a small seconds display is at 3 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. Date aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock, and a tachymeter scale around the periphery complete the functions.
A Proven Chronograph Movement
Power comes from COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement based on the ETA A322-11, offering a 54-hour power reserve and a 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency. It is not in-house calibre, but it is robust and appropriate for a watch intended to accompany spirited driving.
Strap, Availability & Price
The watch is worn on a brown perforated leather strap, closed with a Lucent Steel pin buckle. The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Raticosa continues Chopard’s long-running celebration of historic motorsport, but it also stands comfortably on its own with plenty of character beyond the racing connection. Priced at EUR 11,100 or USD 11,700, the watch is part of the current collection.
