Tutima Expands its Fleet with the Compact Flieger T5 in Titanium
More compact diameters and titanium cases for Tutima's pilot-inspired contemporary all-rounder.
Tutima, based in Glashütte, earned its wings in the 1940s with its military and pilot’s watches and, in 1941, produced Germany’s first two-pusher flyback chronograph (later referred to as the Flieger). In 2019, Tutima released a contemporary, less tool-oriented, time-and-date take on the Flieger. The latest model to join the squadron is the Flieger T5, with a more compact and more wearable 38.5mm titanium case.
Grouped in the same family as the larger 41mm Flieger Automatics, the new Flieger T5 responds to market trends with a reduced 38.5mm diameter coupled with a height of 12.5mm. Crafted from grade 5 titanium, the case combines exceptional resistance to corrosion and scratches with its characteristic lightweight properties. Resistant to depths of 100 metres, the screw-down crown reflects its pilot’s watch heritage with its large dimensions and fluting for enhanced manipulation. The lugs are short, and the sloping bezel frames a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Mostly satin-brushed, the case features polished accents on the bezel, crown and central link of the titanium bracelet. The screw-down caseback also features a sapphire crystal revealing Tutima’s calibre 330 automatic movement.
Presented with either a black or a blue lacquered dial, the dials reflect the brand’s military aviation DNA without going overboard on the vintage features. The main tribute lies in its exceptional legibility and luminescence, essential features of a cockpit instrument. The signature pilot’s orientation triangle at noon, flanked by two dots, the baton hour markers, Arabic numerals and lance-shaped hour and minute hands are all treated with a thick coating of Super-LumiNova. The central seconds hand is bright red, and the colour-matched date window appears in a rectangular aperture at 6 o’clock.
The Tutima automatic calibre 330 (based on an ETA 2836) is visible on the caseback, with its rhodium-plated rotor and gold “T”. Beating at 4Hz, it has a power reserve of 41 hours. It is recognised as a tried-and-tested, easily serviceable movement.
Available with a three-row titanium bracelet, it can also be paired with a vintage-style brown Horween leather strap. The Flieger T5 Titanium with a bracelet retails for EUR 2,350; the leather strap option retails for EUR 1,950. More information at tutima.com.

I guessed the price. 41 hours? The numbers around the indices? 12.5 mm thick? Open case back to see a movement made for closed case backs. No thank you.
A surprisingly cluttered dial for a flieger, the date and the minute numbers are a distraction. Too bad as I really like the idea of a titanium flieger, the serch goes on.
