The New Kollokium Projekt 01 Variant F, a Luminous Design Manifesto

The new Variant redefines the use of lume in a watch and reinforces its position among the most original voices in contemporary horological design.

Kollokium, the unconventional design collective founded in 2020 by three friends, Manuel Emch, Barth Nussbaumer, and Amr Sindi (The Horophile), looks to defy traditional watchmaking norms. Rethinking the way to approach watchmaking and especially branding, this is, in fact, not a brand but rather a platform free from constraint. The latest release, the Projekt 01 Variant F, introduces the most luminous and daring concept to date, pushing the limits of Super-LumiNova application with a staggering 488 lume elements emitting a rare violet glow.

The Variant F builds on the distinct identity of the Projekt 01 platform, first launched in late 2023. Its case construction stays true to the series’ raw neo-brutalist aesthetic. Forged from die-cast 316L stainless steel rather than machined, the case features an industrial texture that’s visually heavy-duty yet unexpectedly smooth to the touch.

The two-part case is 40mm in diameter and includes a cylindrical mid-case and a barrel-shaped base with original lugs. (You’ll find the project’s internal dossier name on the left: K,P-n°01). The box-shaped sapphire crystal, now taller than previous versions to accommodate a revised hand stack, raises the total height to 11.95mm. The watch features a valve-style crown and is water-resistant to 50m.

The dial execution is new, as this model introduces the Lichtblock technology, a ceramic-resin compound infused with violet-emission Super-LumiNova. Each of the 488 cylindrical pins making up the dial and markers is formed from this proprietary lume material, equivalent, according to Kollokium, to the amount used across 500 traditional dials. Arranged in seemingly abstract groups and with radial patterns, the markers appear to break away from the pixelated layouts of earlier Projekt 01 versions.

The dial base is violet with a matte metallic sheen that shifts subtly from black to purple depending on the light. To match the luminosity of the new dial, the hour and minute hands have been redesigned and carry thick, lozenge-shaped Lichtblock inserts that emit the same violet light. The white openworked seconds hand remains unchanged in its shape.

The watch is powered by the automatic G101 calibre from La Joux-Perret. Operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering a 68-hour power reserve, the movement (unbranded and unadorned) is hidden behind a solid caseback. This is in line with Kollokium’s philosophy, which focuses on the dial and the visual and tactile experience, not the decorative finishings.

The strap is made of elastic textile in a warm grey tone, closed with a die-cast steel hook and stitched loops that allow quick size adjustment. The Kollokium Projekt 01 Variant F is limited to 399 pieces and will be available online at kollokium.com starting June 11, 2025, at 15:00 CET, with select pieces also distributed through retail partners. The price is CHF 3,666.66 (excluding VAT).
