Kollokium Closes the Projekt 01 Chapter with the Luminous Variant H

Three years after the first iteration, Kollokium bids farewell to its inaugural design with a final, radically luminous take on the neubrutalist Projekt 01.

With the Projekt 01 Variant H, Kollokium puts an end to its first chapter, the watch that marked the independent platform’s debut. Since its introduction in 2023, the Projekt 01 has been offered in several iterations, with different materials and colours. Variant H returns to the black-dial aesthetic of the earliest editions, with the more abstract dial architecture of the Variant F and the most extensive use of lume yet. It is the final version of the original design before Kollokium moves on to continue with the Projekt 02, and possibly more…

The 40mm by 7mm case, made of 316L stainless steel, is produced through die casting, an industrial process that leaves behind a distinctive, raw texture. It is neither conventionally matte nor frosted, and its slightly irregular appearance is immediately noticeable, as it differs from the polished and brushed surfaces of most contemporary mechanical watches.

The two-part construction consists of a barrel-shaped caseback and angular lugs inspired by cruciform screwdrivers. The case middle sits above this base and houses the movement in a steel container, with a valve-shaped crown to complete the industrial design. Variant H, like its direct predecessor F, uses a reworked case and sapphire crystal to accommodate the additional height of the luminous hands, and the movement sits slightly lower in the case. An effort to keep proportions under control results in a watch that is 11.95mm thick, including the crystal. Water resistance is 50m.

The dial’s textured matte-black base is covered by 488 individually hand-applied cylindrical pins, produced in kollokium’s proprietary Lichtblock ceramic-resin hybrid material. For this edition, the material incorporates Super-LumiNova BGW9 for a bright cyan-blue glow in low light. Six different diameters and heights create the graphical, three-dimensional surface that has become a signature feature of Projekt 01. The hour and minutes hands also contain Lichtblock elements, and the blue seconds hand emits blue light in the dark.

The Projekt 01 uses the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement (an alternative to the ETA 2824), hidden behind the closed caseback. The G101 calibre measures 26mm in diameter and 4.45mm thick, operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers a 68-hour power reserve.

The watch is worn on a cream-white elastic textile single-piece strap, to contrast with the black dial and echo the pale appearance of the Lichtblock pins in daylight. A second black strap is included with the purchase, and both use Kollokium’s hook fastening system with stitched loops for adjustment. The Projekt 01 Variant H is limited to 399 pieces and is available through Kollokium and selected retailers. The final iteration of the Projekt 01 is priced at CHF 3,888.88 excluding VAT.
