The New anOrdain Model 2 MKII Medium & Large
anOrdain updates the popular Model 2 and now presents it in two sizes.
The story of anOrdain has been an incredible success from the outside. Yet, as most watchmakers and start-up brands will vouch for, it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to launch an inaugural collection, let alone build a brand strong enough for years to come. But that’s precisely what the Scottish independent watchmaker has done, through a unique mix of styling elements and traditional craftsmanship. The Model 1 and Model 2 already enjoy a solid fanbase, and anOrdain felt it was time for an update and a new size. Here’s the anOrdain Model 2 MKII Medium & Large.
Rest assured, the very essence of the fantastic anOrdain concept has been left untouched with this update. The 36mm Model 2 of 2019 now gets a makeover with the introduction of its “bigger brother”.
The Model 2 has always been anOrdain’s take on the classic field watch, with a sober yet robust construction and a clear, extremely legible dial. This doesn’t mean the watch is bland or boring. Quite the contrary, as the Model 2 featured a nicely shaped case and, of course, that handsome vitreous enamel dial.
The Model MKII retains the 36mm size (Medium) and welcomes a new 39.5mm size (Large). Both sizes follow the same design, with a brushed or polished finish (depending on the exact model). The strong, rounded lugs combined with the subtle crown guard protruding from the caseband give it plenty of appeal. The most obvious visual difference between the MKII Medium and MKII Large is the profile of the bezel. In the MKII Large this follows the same curvature but looks slimmer visually due to the increased case size. Round the back, a closed caseback hides the movement (more later).
The biggest change to the dial of the anOrdain Model 2 MKII is the inclusion of a minutes track on the outer perimeter and a seconds hand. Previously the Model 2 featured hour and minute hands with hour indices only. This adds a touch of sportiness to the MKII without compromising its distinct soul. The vitreous enamel dial comes in White, Racing Green, Grey Haar or Flax (a mustardy-yellow tone) in typical anOrdain style. Each one is handmade by a single enameller and can take several days to finish. The hour numerals have a contrasting outline with a light filling. The hands have also been slightly updated in design and finishing.
The anOrdain Model 2 MKII is driven by a Sellita SW 210-1 manually wound movement, similar to the Model 2 (MKI). This reliable calibre gives you a running time of 38 hours when fully wound and runs at a rate of 28,800vph. It is upgraded with Incabloc shock protection and has a customised black rotor that it is hidden from view by the closed caseback. This caseback is engraved with a cartographical contour map, further emphasising the field watch theme.
The anOrdain Model 2 MKII Medium & Large come on an 18mm or 20mm wide leather strap, with plenty of options. Production of these models is not limited; however, it’s expected to be around 200 watches per year due to production capacity. The price of the anOrdain Model MKII Medium is GBP 1,700; the Large model costs GBP 1,800, both excluding VAT.

This is a great update. The colour options. font tweaks and minute track all make for nice inclusions though I prefer the shape of the original hands.
I love my fume Model 2 Mk1 but the 36mm and smallish dial means I find it wears a bit small unless on a nato. It’s brilliant in that configuration though and is easily my most worn watch.
