The Dynamic And Colourful HYT Moon Runner Red Magma

Capturing the deep red tones of the molten material found deep underneath the surface of the Earth.

Channelling the intense red glow of magma found in Earth’s core, HYT brings a new colour to the table with the HYT Moon Runner Red Magma. This highly complex and expressive watch is the first model under the revived HYT to combine the liquid hour display with another complication. Placed smack-bang in the middle is a large spherical moon phase display, something we’ve first seen in the Supernova Blue Moon Runner, and later in the Moon Runner Neon White. This red version though might be the most dramatic-looking piece to come from HYT to date.

The new HYT Moon Runner Red Magma is basically an evolution of colour, with a few additional touches here and there compared to the Supernova Blue and Neon White. What remained is the hydrocarbon and titanium case of the first Moon Runner, but now with a red coating on the titanium middle case. This is sandwiched between the top and bottom hydrocarbon elements that extend into lug sections. It still measures a hefty 48mm by 52.30mm, with a height of 21.80mm.

The dial is dominated by the large spherical moon phase placed at the heart of the watch, now made of black and red titanium with a circular aperture suspended on a V-shaped arm. Surrounding the moon phase are the revolving rings for the date and month. One step outward is a rotating red ring that holds the minute pointer in place. This follows a sectioned minute track in white, with double digits at every 5-minute interval. Finally, the capillary for the hours is filled with a red and clear liquid, with the split between the two liquids being the hour “hand”. Applied luminescent numerals over a black and red grid help with pinpointing the exact hour with ease.

Movement-wise, nothing has changed, as the HYT Moon Runner Red Magma still comes with the calibre HYT 601-MO. This complex hand-wound movement uses no less than 516 components. Beating at 28,800vph, it provides 72 hours of autonomy. Even though the additional indications take up most of the space, you can still get a glimpse of the sophisticated bellow system that drives the liquids through the capillary.

The HYT Moon Runner Red Magma comes on a black rubber and red Alcantara strap with a black-coated titanium pin buckle. It is limited to just 27 pieces and comes with a price tag of CHF 120,000.
