The Australian cricketer and Rado ambassador inspired a 459-piece limited edition to celebrate his Test career and the colours of the game.
After the recent European Cricket Special Edition, Rado once again turns to cricket for its latest Captain Cook collaboration, working with Australian Cameron Green on a watch that brings several elements of the sport into its design. The watch keeps the familiar Captain Cook construction but wears a green-and-gold colour scheme and comes with a few literal cricket references.
The 42mm diameter by 12.3mm thick case is made of polished stainless steel and measures 48.6mm lug to lug. A yellow gold-coloured PVD-coated rotating bezel with a polished green high-tech ceramic insert features metallised markings. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial. The screw-down crown and caseback help provide 300m of water resistance. Finally, a special screw-down caseback carries Cameron Green’s signature alongside the engraving “Limited Edition, One Out Of 459”. The limitation number reflects Green becoming the 459th male player to represent Australia in Test cricket.
On the dial, the green gradient sunray surface is intended to resemble a cricket pitch, while three yellow gold-coloured dots at 12 o’clock represent the stumps. The flange carries a minutes track inspired by the stitching of a cricket ball, and the red backdrop beneath the moving anchor symbol mimics the ball itself. Yellow gold-coloured applied indices and matching hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, and the seconds hand receives a red tip. The date display is at 3 o’clock.
The watch is powered by the automatic calibre R763, one of the Swatch Group’s workhorse movements (ETA C07.611, a.k.a. Powermatic 80). Equipped with an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring, it operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and offers an 80-hour power reserve.
Rado offers three wearing options. The standard bracelet is a bicolour design, with brushed stainless-steel outer links and polished yellow gold-coloured PVD-coated middle rice-grain-like links.
