Since its revival in 2017, the Rado Captain Cook collection has grown from a faithful vintage re-edition into one of the brand’s pillars, embracing models to include compact 37mm models, ceramic executions, bronze editions and high-tech divers. Now Rado introduces another themed interpretation, created to celebrate its new role as Official Timing Partner of European Cricket. The Captain Cook x European Cricket Special Edition incorporates a series of discreet references to the sport while retaining all the qualities that have made the Captain Cook such a versatile everyday sports watch.

The watch is based on the familiar 43mm stainless steel Captain Cook, measuring 49.8mm lug-to-lug and 16.2mm thick, with robust 300m water resistance. The polished case is paired with a yellow gold PVD-coated rotating bezel fitted with one of Rado’s signature blue high-tech ceramic inserts, laser engraved with gold-coloured numerals and markers. A screw-down crown, also in gold PVD, and a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating complete the package. The caseback carries a special engraving reading “Official Timing Partner European Cricket.”

The dial contains most of the thematic details, although they remain nicely restrained. Finished in a blue gradient inspired by European Cricket’s visual identity, it depicts a cricket pitch viewed from above. Above the applied Rado logo sit three gold-coloured dots representing the wicket’s three stumps, and the signature rotating anchor logo now revolves against a red background recalling a traditional leather cricket ball. The minute track should recall the stitched seam of a cricket ball, and the seconds hand gets a matching red tip. Applied yellow gold-coloured indices and broad Captain Cook hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova.

The watch is powered by the automatic calibre R763, one of the Swatch Group’s proven workhorse movements (ETA C07.611 Powermatic 80). Equipped with an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring, it operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and stores an 80-hour power reserve. Rado also states that the movement is regulated beyond standard testing requirements, with adjustments made in up to 5 positions for better accuracy.

Alongside the stainless steel bracelet, featuring yellow gold PVD-coated centre links and a titanium folding clasp, the watch is delivered with a dark blue NATO-style textile strap and a black rubber strap, each fitted with matching gold-coloured hardware. A dedicated pouch allows all three options to be stored together. The watch is available now, priced at CHF 2,550.
