The New Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph

Part of the brand’s material innovation narrative, in a fully loaded package.

The Captain Cook remains one of Rado’s most recognisable collections and is a name that resonates with enthusiasts and collectors alike. First introduced in 1962 as a compact 37mm diver rated to 200 metres, it marked the brand’s entry into serious tool watches. Since its revival, the Captain Cook line has evolved through various successful editions, including the Bronze series and the innovative High-Tech Ceramic models. In 2022, Rado added a new dimension with the launch of the Captain Cook Chronograph, a logical evolution. Now, Rado builds on that foundation with the debut of a new iteration: the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph, rendered in the brand’s signature material, presented in two distinct executions.

The new Rado Captain Cook High-Tec Ceramic Chronograph marks the first time the chrono series has been rendered in a full monobloc high-tech ceramic case, a defining element of the release. The watch has a 43.0mm diameter case, 49.8mm lug-to-lug, and a height of 16.2mm, including a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Polished stainless steel screw-down pushers, screw-down crown with the anchor logo and the circular brushed titanium case back with sapphire crystal ensure a solid 300m water resistance rating. Despite its size, ceramic and titanium make the watch feel considerably lighter than its dimensions suggest. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial.

As mentioned, two versions are available. One pairs a matt black ceramic case with a rose gold PVD-coated stainless steel bezel, crown, and pushers. Its matching polished black ceramic bezel insert features engraved markings filled with white Super-LumiNova. The applied hour markers and polished hands are also rose gold-toned, with luminous infill. This model features a black dial, giving the watch a uniform and assertive tone.

The second version offers a matt plasma ceramic case with a stainless steel bezel fitted with the dark green polished ceramic bezel insert. In a matching green tone, the dial is complemented by rhodium-coloured applied markers and hands, with white Super-LumiNova for legibility. Both models include a rotating anchor logo at 12 o’clock and date in red on a white disc at 6 o’clock.

The dial layout now offers three subdials, including a newly added chronograph hour counter, a first for Captain Cook chronographs. All chronograph hands feature red-painted tips to distinguish them clearly from the timekeeping indicators.

The Rado Captain Cook High-Tec Ceramic Chronograph is powered by calibre R801, an automatic chronograph movement based on a modular architecture. It operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and is fitted with a Nivachron hairspring for anti-magnetic resistance. The movement offers a 59-hour power reserve.

The bracelet, also crafted in high-tech ceramic, is integrated seamlessly into the case design, closed with a titanium three-fold clasp. The price is EUR 5,935; for more information, please visit www.rado.com.
