Three Patek Philippe Nautilus 50th Anniversary Limited Wristwatches… And a Nautilus Pocket Watch
Three sleek and handsome limited editions focusing on the essentials… and a pocket watch
This year, Patek Philippe celebrates the 50th anniversary of a cult watch, the Nautilus. As expected, we are getting some celebratory limited editions. The 30th anniversary of the collection saw the introduction of the references 5711, 5712 Moon and 5980 Chronograph, with what was at the time a true re-launch of the Nautilus (6 references in total). For the 40th anniversary, Patek released an extra-large 44mm chronograph version (reference 5976/1G) and a platinum version (reference 5711/1P). For the 50th anniversary, the brand distils the essence of the Nautilus with 3 limited editions focusing on the model’s distinctive features, powered by another child of the 1970s, the extra-thin micro-rotor calibre 240. Time only versions, ultra-thin, proposed in 41mm Jumbo white gold versions (references 5810/1G-001 and 5810G-001) or in an elegant Mid-Size 38mm platinum version (5610/1P-001). But that’s not all… There is also a cool, unexpected Nautilus pocket watch that will surely captivate dandy collectors.
A cult watch like the Nautilus deserves little introduction. Launched in 1976, it marked Gérald Genta’s second great icon of the 1970s, together with the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, redefining the very idea of luxury and sporty elegance. Far from the traditional codes of gold dress watches, it embraced steel as its canvas, pairing robust utility with uncompromising style. With its bold, integrated bracelet and instantly recognisable porthole-inspired case, the Nautilus disrupted conventions and established the integrated sports watch as a new category of high horology.
Distilling the essence of Nautilus
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Patek Philippe releases 3 limited editions focusing on the quintessential codes of the watch. 3 time-only Nautilus (without second and without date) in ultra-thin cases housing another child of the 1970s, the iconic micro-rotor 240 calibre, which was presented in 1977, just one year after the Nautilus. The references 5810G-001 (composite strap) and 5810/1G-001 (bracelet) come in 41mm white gold versions. The elegant 5610/1P-001 comes in a 38mm version with a platinum bracelet.
Nautilus 50th Anniversary 5810/1G-001 and 5810G-001 (no date, 41mm white gold)
These two white gold Nautilus stand out with the sober elegance of their display, with hour and minute indication only on their iconic, blue, horizontally embossed dial. Their pared-down design, free of superfluous elements, emphasises its inherent strength. The use of the 240 micro-rotor movement allows for an elegant profile at just 6.9mm. The movement is visible through the case back, and its gold micro rotor is engraved with the caption “50 1976 – 2026”.
Altogether, pure class, distilling the essence of what aficionados like from this cult watch. The 5810/1G-001 on a white gold bracelet is released in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces, and the 5810G-001 on a blue composite strap with baguette diamond hour markers is released in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Prices are set respectively at CHF 75,000 and CHF 60,000.
Nautilus 50th Anniversary 5610/1P-001 (no date, 38mm platinum)
The reference 5610/1P-001 also embraces the essentialist philosophy of the two white gold editions. It adopts the same no date, blue embossed dial and the 240 calibre. But it comes in a more compact case that is crafted in platinum, the noblest of all metals. Its dimensions are 38mm x 6.90mm, which could be seen as a more palatable size by many, given the current trend for smaller watches. A model to be compared to the medium size reference 3800 (37.5mm x 7.6mm) or 5800/1A (38.4mm x 8.5mm).
Like every Patek in platinum, the Reference 5610/1P-001 is distinguished by a discreet diamond set here at 9 o’clock. It comes on a platinum bracelet, and it is released in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces.
These three limited edition wristwatches are delivered in a cool cork box, a nod to the original box for the first series Patek Philippe ref. 3700 Nautilus.
The water resistance is 30m, in line with the unified Patek Philippe water resistance. Patek Philippe unified its water resistance standards in early 2024 to a 30-meter depth rating for all its water-resistant watches to simplify communication and better reflect real-world use. The 5610 is priced at CHF 90,000.
Nautilus 50th Anniversary 958G-001
The last of the Nautilus 50th anniversary limited editions is even more surprising – and pretty cool – with the first-ever Nautilus pocket watch.
Presented in a white gold 50.65mm case, the reference 958G-001 comes without a bracelet but retains the force of its iconic case design. The blue embossed dial features baguette-diamond indexes. The case back features a blue embossed decor with a gold Calatrava cross appliqué. Underneath the watch cover, the back is engraved with the caption “50th Anniversary Nautilus 1976 – 2026 Patek Philippe”. The nicely finished 31-505 8J PS IRM CI J hand-wound calibre with 8-days of power reserve on two barrels. It displays the hours, minutes, the date by hand, the day of the week, small seconds and the power reserve. Released in a limited edition of 100 pieces, the reference 958G-001 comes without a chain, and the construction of the case allows you to convert it into a desk clock… in a class of its own. The 958G-001 retails at CHF 205,000.
