Panerai combines one of its most recognisable dive watches with its proprietary carbon composite, creating a lighter take on the classic 44mm Luminor Marina.
Panerai expands the use of advanced materials across its collections and reveals the new Luminor Marina PAM01707. The overall design remains unmistakably that of the classic Luminor, with the crown-protecting bridge, sandwich dial and 44mm proportions, but the latest addition pairs these familiar elements with a full Carbotech case. This lighter, highly corrosion-resistant version of one of the brand’s signature dive watches features vintage-inspired details that reference Panerai’s military past.
The 44mm case, bezel and crown protector are crafted from Carbotech, Panerai’s proprietary carbon composite made by compressing layers of carbon fibre with PEEK, a high-performance polymer. The material is significantly lighter than both titanium and steel while offering excellent corrosion resistance, making it well-suited for underwater use. Thanks to the layered construction, each case features a unique marbled pattern on its matte-black surface. The closed caseback and trapezoidal pin buckle are made from DLC-coated titanium, and despite its large dimensions, the watch weighs only around 100 grams. Water resistance is 300m.
The matte black dial exhibits a bit more vintage-inspired aesthetic than recent Luminor Marina models. It features Panerai’s signature sandwich construction with warm beige Super-LumiNova that emits a green glow in the dark. The absence of a date display creates a cleaner layout like that of the early military references. The small seconds display at 9 o’clock is both a functional and historical feature, originally allowing military divers to confirm at a glance that the watch was running.
The watch is powered by the automatic calibre P.9010 (produced at Richmont’s ValFleurier facilities), delivering a three-day power reserve via twin barrels. Beating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, it features an independently adjustable local hour hand that can be moved in one-hour increments without interrupting the movement.

Just when the previous CEO left on a mostly positive note with a release of design and functional sensibilities that resonated with early OP owners and enthusiasts. Panerai have shown that they are committed to their “vintage style” designs and isn’t letting go anytime soon of their expression of their heritage with the use of beige lume material or fauxtina. The application of fauxtina, the Navy Seals, and the Luna Rossa models are three of many things that Panerai can do away with.
