The New Panerai Luminor Marina Collection In Steel
Deeper, brighter, lighter and a slimmer automatic movement.

Although the Florentine brand Panerai was founded in 1860, its contract with the Italian Royal Navy to produce precision instruments changed its destiny radically. Panerai’s 1916 radium-based powder, known as Radiomir, lit up the brand’s future as a supplier of luminescent instruments, underwater tools, and eventually watches for the Italian Royal Navy and its famous frogmen commandos. In 1949, Panerai replaced radioactive radium with Luminor, a harmless tritium-based luminescent substance. A few years later, Panerai patented its Luminor watch with its sandwich dial, outstanding luminescence and crown-protecting bridge. In 1993, the Luminor and Luminor Marina Militare were made available to civilians. Now a flagship collection, Panerai proposes four new Luminor Marina models in stainless steel with increased water-resistance, brighter luminescence and a new 3-day automatic movement.
The Luminor Marina’s prominent bridge protecting the crown is now responsible for ensuring the higher water-resistance rating of 500 metres, a first for the collection and a significant upgrade in line with Panerai’s legacy of professional high-performance tool watches. Thanks to the caliber’s slimmer proportions, the 44mm stainless steel case is 12% thinner and 15% lighter, improving ergonomics noticeably. The premium steel used for the case – AISI 316LVM – 1.4441- is remelted to increase purity and resistance to corrosion and engineered for optimal strength and resilience.
Panerai’s signature sandwich construction dial is composed of two superimposed plates, with a drilled upper plate revealing the solid luminescent lower plate. Now treated with Super-LumiNova X2, the cut-out numerals and indices, along with the small seconds and central hour and minute and minute hands, glow 10% brighter than regular X1. Other upgrades include the enlarged and bevelled date display and the reduction of inscriptions on the dial.
The new P.980 automatic calibre is at the heart of the new Luminor Marina models and visible through the caseback. A manufacture movement made by the Richemont Group, it has a thin height of 4.2mm, a robust 3-day power reserve, a stop-seconds function and a frequency of 28,800vph.
Another first for the Marina Luminor is the PAM Click Release System on the strap and buckle, making strap changes an effortless and tool-free experience. The new V-shaped bracelet design, accompanying the light blue sun-brushed dial ref. PAM03323, tapers from the case to the buckle and features a convenient quick length adjustment system allowing for 2mm extensions without needing tools. For a more classical look, the black dial ref. PAM03312 and white dial ref. PAM03314 both come with a black alligator leather strap; the new dark blue sun-brushed dial colour, ref. PAM03313 is paired with a blue alligator strap. Each model is presented with a complimentary rubber strap.
The three references with leather straps retail for EUR 8,900; the steel bracelet model for EUR 9,900.
