New Colours and Stone Dials for the Piaget Andy Warhol Watch

New precious and semi-precious stone dials for Piaget’s iconic 1970s Andy Warhol watch.

Piaget’s swank 15102 reference, better known as the Black Tie watch, captured the zeitgeist of the early 1970s with its oversized 45mm cushion-shaped gold case, dramatic sweeping gadroons and sleek black dial. Reputedly American Pop artist Andy Warhol’s favourite model, Piaget was given the green light last year to rename its cult watch the Andy Warhol Watch. To celebrate the partnership, Piaget launched the Andy Warhol Clou de Paris watch with a blue meteorite dial and a hand-guilloché pattern on the tiered white gold case. Expanding the collection, Piaget introduces four new references with precious and semi-precious stone dials.

Piaget’s facet as a reputed watchmaker and forerunner in ultra-thin mechanical movements in the 1950s was complemented by another facet as a jeweller in the 1960s. Thanks to the aesthetic freedom offered by the brand’s ultra-thin movements, Piaget’s watches were reimagined as exotic jewels, gaining fame for their vibrant colours and stone dials. Once again, Piaget fuses its two fortes in the latest Andy Warhol Watches. The four novelties share a white or rose gold 45mm x 43mm cushion-shaped case with the signature stepped gadroons and are powered by Piaget’s slim in-house 501P1 automatic (3.6mm thick) with a 40-hour power reserve.

Capturing the flair of the early 1970s is the high jewellery white gold reference with a gem-set case and a stunning opal dial. Sparkling with flashes of blue and green, opals are famous for their dazzling chameleonic play of colour. Framing the hypnotic dial, blue baguette-cut sapphires have been set into the stepped gadroons. The second white gold model features a semi-precious silky tiger’s eye stone with deep orange and brown tones and the classic stepped gadroons leading to the brushed bezel.

In addition to the more colour-saturated opal and tiger’s eye references, Piaget will be presenting two meteorite dials: one in a white gold case with a green meteorite dial and the second in pink gold with white meteorite, both with applied gold hour markers and matching dauphine-style hands.

Piaget offers a wide range of customisation options, including ten different stone dials, five different coloured leather straps, and white or rose gold dauphine or baton hands. Price to be confirmed. More information at Piaget.com.

  1. It’s undeniably cool, and can be understated if you wish it to be.
