A New, Stylish Blue and Golden Dial For the MeisterSinger Pangaea Day Date

An elegant wardrobe update for the Pangaea.

| By Rebecca Doulton | 2 min read |

Inspired by the very first mechanical tower and table clocks that had not yet discovered the minutes hand, MeisterSinger’s disarmingly simple premise is to deliver the time with a single hand. However, a single hand is not necessarily equated with simple watches, and the brand’s repertoire includes complications like its chiming Bel Hora and moon phase models. Named after the supercontinent that existed from the late Paleozoic to the early Mesozoic, the brand’s Pangaea collection is home to the Day Date model. A new edition of the Pangaea Day Date has been released with a lovely brushed blue dial and golden accents.

Interpreted in contemporary and vintage guises accompanied by the ‘365’ suffix, the MeisterSinger Pangaea Day Date was introduced in 2013. Eschewing the traditional apertures for the day and date functions, the information is intuitively displayed on three concentric discs that diminish in size as they reach the centre. The outermost chapter ring displays the hours and minutes and is succeeded by the two rotating discs, one for the date and the second for the day of the week.

The polished 40mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 10.5mm has a large onion-style crown and a thin bezel for maximum dial exposure. The novelty here is the elegant blue sunray-brushed dial with golden accents. The double digits representing the hours are golden, as are the shorter five-minute intervals; the whole, quarter and half-hour indications are white. The odd numerals on the date disc are also golden, matching the single central hand and the triangular day of the week indicator above the MeisterSinger logo.

Powered by a Sellita SW200 automatic, the movement indicates the hours and minutes through its central hand and the day and date on two rotating discs that switch at midnight and are set through the first position of the pull-out crown. Running at a rate of 28,800vph, it delivers a modest 38-hour power reserve. The central rotor is customised with the MeisterSinger signature and logo.

The Meistersinger Pangaea Day Date is paired with a brown cowhide strap. It is available now and retails for EUR 2,490 (incl. tax). More information at Meistersinger.com.

  1. Difficult sometimes to be “diplomatic” enough, but, this is not a watch for reading the time, but the “approximate time”. Surprised that there is market for such products.
