The New Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition

Armin Strom celebrates its manufacture 15th anniversary with a new take on its resonance concept.

If Armin Strom was initially centred around Mister Armin Strom himself, the brand underwent a significant transformation in 2006 when it was acquired by Serge Michel and Claude Greisler, who aimed to turn Armin Strom into a full-fledged manufacture. The duo presented its first in-house movement in 2009, and today, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of this milestone, Armin Strom introduces a new evolution of their resonance concept – a groundbreaking development that has truly set the brand apart. The Dual Time GMT Resonance is a completely new take, and it has never looked better!

Two oscillating bodies in close proximity tend to synchronize, a phenomenon first observed by Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens in 1665. He noticed that two of his pendulum clocks, when placed near each other, would eventually oscillate in unison. This effect, known as resonance, has been rarely applied in watchmaking. Historical figures like Astide Janvier and Abraham Louis Breguet used it in “Pendules Sympathiques,” and modern watchmakers such as François-Paul Journe and Beat Haldimann have also explored it. In 2016, Armin Strom took this concept further with its Mirrored Force Resonance, where two balance wheels are synchronized through a “clutch spring”. As seen with Huygens’ discovery, the regulating organs get coupled thanks to the tiny vibrations of the spring, enhancing their precision.

Presented to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the brand’s manufacture, the Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance – First Edition marks a significant evolution of the resonance concept. This white gold limited edition embraces a symmetrical design language and is more compact than previous versions, measuring only 39mm in diameter and 9.05mm in thickness.

The watch is powered by the new manually wound Armin Strom Caliber ARF22, operating at a frequency of 25,200vph with a 42-hour power reserve. It features two independent barrels and gear trains, allowing it to display two fully independent time zones (both hours and minutes), along with a subsidiary day-night indication. Both barrels are wound using the crown at 4 o’clock, while each dial’s time is set using its respective crown.

Contrasting with the anthracite PVD-coated main plate, the two dials stand out with sky-blue grenage and black azurage chapter rings – all this with the attention to detail and refined craftsmanship you’ve come to expect from Armin Strom. The symmetrical layout is enhanced by a cool, original three-dimensional ratchet mechanism positioned between the two barrels, ensuring even load distribution. Turning the watch over, the sapphire case back reveals the intricate architecture of the meticulously finished movement, showcasing hand-polished bevels, screws, and countersinks, along with circular graining, perlage, and Geneva stripes.

The Dual Time GMT Resonance First Edition comes with two straps: a matte grey alligator strap with sky-blue stitching and a light grey alligator strap with pearl-gray stitching. It is released in a limited edition of 25 pieces. The price is set at EUR 133,300.
