The Fun New Mido Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Alebrijes
The new special edition brings a colourful calavera and fantastical creatures to Mido’s angular Multifort TV series.
Since 2020, Mido has marked “Día de los Muertos” with special editions inspired by the Mexican tradition of remembering the dead through colour, symbolism, and celebration. For 2026, the brand launches the Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Alebrijes, bringing the collection’s most recognisable square-shaped case together with an important element of Mexican culture, Alebrijes. These fantastical creatures, first created by Mexican artist Pedro Linares in the 1930s, combine parts of different real or imaginary animals, and here they surround a central calavera on the dial. It is the first time Mido has brought the Día de los Muertos theme to the Multifort TV series.
The new watch retains the distinctive 40mm x 39.2mm stainless-steel Multifort TV case, with a 46.85mm lug-to-lug measurement and a 11.5mm thickness. Satin-finished and polished surfaces create contrast across the three-part construction, and a sandblasted dot marks 12 o’clock. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the dial; a transparent caseback reveals the movement. Guards protect the screw-down crown. Water resistance is 100m.
The dial uses a grey-to-black gradient background with a calavera (note the “Multifort” printed across) and Alebrijes images. The creatures are engraved in negative relief, and several are painted with a combination of 12 lacquers and three colours of Super-LumiNova. The Big Date display at 12 o’clock contains a fun detail: the numeral “1” is shaped like a bone. The hour markers at 3 and 9 o’clock are applied; the rest are round-shaped and recessed, and all are treated with Super-LumiNova. The diamond-cut and faceted hours and minutes hands are also filled with white Super-LumiNova, but as darkness falls, it is the dial images that truly shine, revealing the decorated skull and the creatures in less colour, yet still very expressively. The flat central seconds hand gets no lume, nor does the minutes track printed on the inclined inner flange.
The watch is powered by Mido’s Calibre 80, a Powermatic 80 (an upgraded ETA 2824-2) movement with a big date indication (ETA C07.651). This automatic movement runs at 21,600 vibrations/hour and uses a Nivachron balance spring, with adjustment in three positions. Power reserve is up to 80 hours. The oscillating weight features Côtes de Genève and the Mido logo.
The Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Alebrijes comes with three interchangeable options: an integrated-style stainless-steel bracelet, closed with a folding clasp; a stainless-steel Milanese mesh bracelet with a sliding clasp; and a textured red rubber strap with a pin buckle. All use quick-change lug bars. This year’s special edition is priced at CHF 1,250 or EUR 1,450. For more, visit midowatches.com.
