The New Mido Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer
Mido upgrades its TV-shaped sports watch with a COSC chronometer-certified Calibre 80, new textured dials, and enhanced movement decoration.
Mido revived the distinctive Multifort TV case in 2023, building a collection of rectangular watches with an (almost) integrated bracelet, including fun editions with the retro TV test card dials. The Multifort TV Big Date is one of the recognisable models, with a strong geometric design, a large date display and an accessible automatic movement. Now, Mido introduces a new version that brings certified precision to the collection. The new Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer retains the familiar proportions but introduces a redesigned dial and a COSC-certified Powermatic Calibre 80.
The stainless steel case, finished with satin-brushed and polished accents for a sporty modern appearance, remains unchanged, measuring 40mm wide, 39.2mm long and 11.5mm thick, with a 46.85mm lug-to-lug. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the dial. The screw-down crown and screw-secured caseback help achieve a 100m water resistance. The three-part case construction and transparent caseback remain familiar elements of the Multifort TV Big Date. The main evolution is on the dial side and what beats inside the watch.
Mido offers the new chronometer in two versions. The first features a sunray-brushed blue dial, while the second uses a predominantly dark grey, monochromatic colour scheme. Both share a new rectangular checkerboard pattern, creating a more pronounced play of light than the previous dial executions. The diamond-cut, faceted hands and redesigned hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova. The minutes/seconds track occupies the stepped flange, with double-digit numerals to mark 5-minute intervals on the top ring. The Big Date display remains at 12 o’clock, but now gets an applied frame. “Chronometer” appears on the dial, signalling the watch’s technical upgrade.
The Mido Calibre 80 COSC is based on the Powermatic family, a.k.a. the ETA C07.651, itself derived from the ETA 2824. The automatic runs at 21,600 vibrations/hour and provides a solid 80-hour power reserve. It is equipped with a Nivachron balance spring to resist magnetic fields, shocks, and temperature variations. The movement’s decoration has also been given more attention. Through the sapphire caseback, the wearer can see blued screws, Côtes de Genève decoration on the oscillating weight and the Mido logo. The word “Chronometer” is also marked on the rotor. The main upgrade concerns the precision of the movement, guaranteed by the COSC to run between -4 and +6 seconds/day.
The Multifort TV Big Date Chronometer is worn on a stainless steel bracelet combining satin-brushed surfaces and polished central links. A folding clasp with push-buttons secures it. Quick-release spring bars let you swap the bracelet for separately available straps.
Both the blue and black/grey versions are priced at CHF 1,350 or EUR 1,550, and join the Multifort TV Big Date collection as the first chronometer-certified models in the range. For more, please visit midowatches.com.
