Maurice Lacroix introduced the 1975 collection last year to mark its 50th anniversary. Since then, the line has expanded to include GMT and day-date models, as well as the 1975 Master Grand Date Retrograde, which was released earlier this year. Now, the Swiss brand welcomes the new 1975 Legacy with a machine-guilloché petite seconde display that sits at 6 o’clock, giving this section of the dial a pleated look. Revisiting the clean, classic style of the 1988 Les Classiques series, limited to 500 pieces each in silver and slate grey, the watch adds a regional touch to the 1975 collection through its dial and caseback details.

Both versions of this 1975 Legacy use Maurice Lacroix’s “Vagues du Jura” motif, which is a wave-like pattern inspired by the Jura landscape. Previously found mostly on Maurice Lacroix’s more elaborate and premium pieces, the motif has been used here to add depth and texture without making the dial feel busy. Its guilloché small seconds display has been paired with a date window appearing at 3 o’clock, all of which keeps things useful for everyday wear. The faceted trapezoid indexes, dauphine-style hour and minute hands, and small seconds hand are all finished in 4N gold tone. When combined with the silver and grey dials, these warm details create a subtle contrast that looks pretty neat.

The stainless-steel case measures 39mm across and 10.2mm thick, so it wears in a balanced and comfortable way. A box-style sapphire crystal adds a slight vintage touch, while the brushed surfaces keep the watch looking clean and chic. On the back, the closed caseback carries a special engraving inspired by Saignelégier and the Jura region, and above the engraving sits the inscription “Maurice Lacroix, Saignelégier”. The watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres.

Inside is the automatic ML158 movement, sourced from Sellita. It runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour, offers a 60-hour power reserve, and powers the hours, minutes, small seconds, and date. The rotor is finished with Geneva stripes and spiral decoration, though it stays hidden behind the closed caseback. These new 1975 Legacy Petite Seconde editions are paired with a black alligator-style leather strap with a butterfly clasp and Maurice Lacroix’s Easy Strap Exchange system for quick, tool-free swaps. Limited to 500 pieces per dial colour, the latest 1975 Legacy is priced at a reasonable price of CHF 1,950.

  1. These actually look pretty nice. For this style of watch though, 37 or 38mm and no-date would have been amazing.

  2. I could moan and say this watch is too large and should be 36-37mm, however these brands need to make money and hit the largest demographic to sell watches. This sadly means that this style of watch was always going to be 39mm or larger. I do feel the sub-seconds is a little lost in the dial and should maybe a touch bigger or maybe lower down the dial.
