Over the past few years, Stockholm-based brand Maen has delivered thoughtfully designed watches with strong selling points. Models such as the integrated-bracelet Manhattan Ultra-Thin and the recent Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin have shown the brand’s growing confidence beyond its early vintage-inspired sports watches. Still, collections like the Hudson remain central to Maen’s identity, offering compact proportions, functional mechanics and a restrained Scandinavian approach to design.

The new Hudson 38 GMT MKII keeps all that but comes with a cleaner, sharper execution of the brand’s travel-ready sports watch. Compact, robust and understated, it brings together retro-inspired details and modern specs in a watch that feels considerably more refined than its price would suggest.

The stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter, 11mm thick (without the crystal) and 47mm lug-to-lug. The large, box-domed sapphire crystal rises above the bezel, giving the watch a distinctly vintage character. Thanks to the slimmer mid-case and bezel construction, however, the watch avoids visual bulk and sits nicely on the wrist.

Maen has clearly paid attention to details throughout the exterior. The brushing appears sharper and more consistent, polished accents are well integrated, and drilled lug holes hint at the utilitarian appeal. Water resistance is rated at 300m, supported by a solid screw-down caseback, giving the Hudson dive-watch credentials alongside its GMT functionality. The watch features a bidirectional 60-click bezel with gilt 24-hour markings and a luminous triangle at noon. Adding a lume pip was one of the most requested upgrades from earlier generations.

The watch is offered in two bezel configurations. One combines brown and black tones for a warmer vintage feel, while the second introduces a far more subtle blue-and-black execution.  The dial features a textured black surface and printed hour markers with beige Super-LumiNova X1. The faceted date window at 6 o’clock is balanced by the double-index at 12. At the same time, the flange integrates a discreet 24-hour scale that allows tracking of a third timezone when used alongside the rotating bezel.

The hands are straightforward and legible. Large stepped hour and minutes hands dominate the display. The central seconds hand has a luminous tip, and the arrow-tipped GMT hand comes finished with a blue or brown pointer. The Hudson 38 GMT MKII is powered by the Sellita SW330-2 in Elaboré grade. The automatic caller-style GMT calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and stores approximately 56 hours of power reserve.

The new bracelet deserves attention. The five-link construction combines brushed and polished surfaces for a more refined appearance while retaining good wrist flexibility. Quick-release end links simplify strap changes, and the clasp now has an on-the-fly micro-adjustment system, a feature rarely seen at this level. The price is EUR 1,249; bracelet options (five-link, Jubilee-style or FKM rubber) are an added cost. Pre-orders open May 20th; after May 24th, the price goes up by EUR 100; deliveries are scheduled to start in December.
