The Laco Scorpion Dive Watch in Black DLC Cases
Sporty, resilient and versatile, the Scorpion returns in all-black 39mm and 42mm cases.
Founded in 1925, Laco was one of the five manufactures in charge of producing military observation watches – B-Uhren – for pilots of the German Luftwaffe in the 1940s. Renowned today for its vintage-inspired pilot’s watches, Laco’s Scorpion dive watch collection has a far more contemporary face and a rugged build to withstand extreme outdoor sports and depths of up to 300 metres. Available in two case sizes, the Scorpion returns with black DLC-coated cases, black dials and bright bursts of luminescent material. Elected as the mascot of this collection, scorpions might be small, but their tough exoskeleton makes them extremely resilient, and they glow in the dark!
All four references of the Scorpion – Himalaya, Mojave, Atlantik and Amazonas – are now cased in black DLC-coated stainless cases in 39mm and 42mm diameters with a thickness of 13mm and 13.4mm, respectively. The paragon of a robust dive watch, the screw-down crown with crown guards, and the screw-down caseback protect the movement against water pressures of up to 300 metres. The unidirectional rotating bezel has a pronounced notched profile and a resilient black ceramic insert with the first 15-minute area of the diving scale and the inverted triangle highlighted with Super-LumiNova in orange, blue, green or white, depending on the model (Himalaya white, Mojave orange, Atlantik blue and Amazonas green).
Laco’s Scorpion watches stand out with their distinctive use of Super-LumiNova. Sharing matte black dials, all Scorpion references highlight legibility with bold colour accents. The white Arabic hour numerals get a boost of light thanks to the luminous rectangular blocks situated on the dial’s periphery. Depending on the model, the SLN on the 15-minute scale of the bezel matches the all-important minutes hand, the lollipop seconds hand and the indices at 12 and 6 o’clock. A date window with a black background at 3 o’clock and a double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment complete the dial.
The screw-down caseback is engraved with a fearsome scorpion in relief. Beneath is the automatic Laco 200 movement, based on a reliable Swiss Sellita SW200 (elaboré grade). It beats at 28,800vph, has a 38-hour power reserve and keeps the hours, minutes, seconds and date in perfect sync.
Laco offers three strap options: a NATO-style rubber strap matching the lume, an all-black rubber strap or a black DLC-coated stainless steel bracelet. The rubber straps retail for EUR 990, and the black DLC stainless steel bracelet, which will be available in November, will cost EUR 1,090.

Looks great. Much nicer aesthetics than Hamilton’s new field watch (I know they aren’t necessarily in the same category). I would buy and use this as a daily beater, so to speak, or if I was out and about hiking or trekking. Good work Laco!
