The New, Summer-Inspired IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35 Pool
The compact Ingenieur returns with an inviting aquatic-coloured dial.
IWC’s Ingenieur tool watch, introduced in the mid-1950s, was specifically designed to handle magnetic environments thanks to its soft-iron cage. However, in 1976, the classic round watch fell into the hands of Gérald Genta, who transformed it into an integrated, anti-magnetic tool watch known as the Ingenieur SL Jumbo. After several remakes, the Ingenieur finally got the modern upgrade it deserved in 2023 with the launch of the Automatic 40. While it retained key features of Genta’s design, the Ingenieur was reengineered as a contemporary luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet, higher ergonomic standards and more refined finishes. The smaller 35mm Ingenieur followed in 2025 and now welcomes a sixth reference with a refreshing aquatic-inspired dial for the hot summer days.
Preceded by Genta’s iconic Royal Oak and Nautilus designs, the integrated design of the Ingenieur SL Jumbo (referring to its large 40mm case housing the protective anti-magnetic cage) has been admired and dissected by watch aficionados since its debut – you can read all about its history here.
Enjoying a second lease of life, Genta’s DNA lives on in the 35mm references. The barrel-shaped case, round bezel with five functional screws, grid-patterned dial and integrated bracelet with H-shaped links all hark back to Genta’s 1976 blueprint. Following the five previous editions of the compact, unisex and versatile 35mm reference in steel, red gold and even a diamond-set version, IWC captures the summer season with this attractive Pool dial model.
With its slim 9.4mm case height and 100m depth rating, the new model features the same alternating satin-brushed and polished finishes as the 40mm models, highlighting its distinctive architecture. The round circular-brushed bezel, with its five polished screws, sits atop the cushion-shaped case. Benefitting from the recent design upgrade, the case, crown guards and integrated bracelet, with its brightly polished central H links, feature vertically brushed finishes with gleaming chamfers.
The Genta-inspired grid dial in negative relief, composed of alternating stamped blocks of vertical and horizontal lines, flaunts the new Pool colour, a shade of aqua-green that works exceptionally well with the steel case. In contrast to the textured dial, the peripheral track is snailed and hosts applied rhodium-plated indices treated with Super-LumiNova. The date window at 3 o’clock is framed with a white disc and black numerals, and the hour and minute hands are also luminescent. Last but not least, the Ingenieur’s lightning-bolt logo appears on the dial at 6 o’clock.
The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the calibre 47110, an automatic movement with date, central hacking seconds, a 4Hz frequency and a 42-hour power reserve based on sister brand Cartier’s 1847 MC. Decorated with circular graining and Geneva stripes, the rotor stands out with its gold-plated finish.
The new Ingenieur Automatic 35 Pool (reference IW324902) will be part of the permanent collection and will retail for CHF 10,500, EUR 11,100 or USD 11,200. More information at iwc.com.
