The Ressence Type 1 DX3, celebrating Girih, the Arab Geometric Art
Ressence launched a watch and the book to honour the watchmaking craft and traditional art of the Arabic world.
Marking the conclusion of a six-year collaboration with the luxury retailer Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Ressence introduces the Type 1 DX3 – a limited edition watch seamlessly blending Arabic mosaic patterns with cloisonné art. As the final chapter in this partnership trilogy, it follows the releases of the Type 1DXB in 2019 and the Type 1 Slim DX2, which paid tribute to the UAE’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
Built on the foundation of the Type 1 Round, the latest iteration unveiled this year, the DX3, boasts a smooth 42.7mm diameter and 11mm thickness pebble-shaped case crafted from polished grade 5 titanium, weighing just 64 grams. The absence of a crown is notable, replaced by a retractable lever on the caseback for winding and adjusting settings. The sleek case profile seamlessly transitions to the double-domed sapphire crystal with AR coating protecting the dial.
The convex German silver dial, filled with cloisonné and Super-LumiNova and coated in rose gold, presents a familiar yet unique desert-coloured image inspired by Arab Geometric Art. The cloisonné design comes alive in the dark with a gentle green glow. The sub-dials and main disc are in constant motion, powered by Ressence’s patented Ressence Orbital Convex System, driven by a customised 2892 base calibre’s minute axle. Sand-coloured circles surround three eccentric bi-axial satellites for the hours, seconds, and days of the week in the central part of the dial. Minutes on the periphery are engraved into a matching sand-coloured track, and all indices and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova. With a 36-hour power reserve, the Ressence Type 1 DX3 is only splash-resistant.
The Ressence Type 1 DX3 is worn on a beige rubber strap with an ardillon buckle, and production is limited to 35 pieces, priced at CHF 23,600 (taxes excluded). Catch a glimpse of this masterpiece at Dubai Watch Week from November 16th to 20th, 2023. Also, get a copy of Ressence’s first book, “Arts & Crafts in Motion,” offering insights into the “genesis, craftsmanship, and fusion of Arab Geometric Art and Horological Decorative Art within the unique DX trilogy”.

I’d lick that, just so it would be mine.
@Hubertje there barely any water resistance.
It’ll be back at the shops for repairs all the time anyway, I was told.
