The New Nomos Minimatik 39 Date Collection

The most concise Nomos family of watches just got bigger, and better.

| By Denis Peshkov | 2 min read |

The Nomos Minimatik is a small family of slim watches, a 35.5mm model with just two dial variations, powered by the brand’s in-house DUW 3001 Neomatik automatic movement. Expanding the collection, Nomos Glashütte now introduces three new references, the Minimatik 39 Date, marking the brand’s latest addition to the dress watch category.

The new Nomos Minimatik 39 Date features a refined two-part stainless steel case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and just 7.5mm thick, with a water resistance of 50 meters. The watch is protected by a domed sapphire crystal on the front and a sapphire caseback. You’ll also note that despite having an identical design to the 2015 automatic versions, the new and larger watches also have a redesigned, more refined case, with more sculpted lugs that are neatly separated from the case. Overall, the watch feels sharper, more slender and better defined in this new iteration.

The dial retains the signature design elements of the original model, including even-numbered numerals and dots for the hour markers, a dotted minute track along the periphery, and a running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock – now flush with the main dial surface rather than recessed. A gold-tone-framed date aperture sits at 3 o’clock with large numerals, ensuring clear readability. The dial is available in white silver-plated with either gold-coloured or rhodium-plated hands, a dark blue version with rhodium-plated hands and a matching blue date disc. And while sharing the inspiration as before, the new models get rid of the brightly-coloured accents and are more elegant, more mature.

Unlike the smaller Minimatik, which features automatic movement, the new Minimatik 39 Date is powered by the manually wound Nomos calibre DUW 4601. This in-house movement was recently unveiled into the Tangente 2date, and is an evolution of the Alpha calibre (the brand’s first in-house movement, based on a Peseux architecture). It is a two-part assembly, with the base calibre in the centre, and in the periphery a date ring placed around the movement.

This in-house movement includes the brand’s proprietary Swing-System visible under an openworked cock, and a quick-set date function. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour, offers a 52-hour power reserve, and is nicely decorated, staying true to Nomos’ commitment to quality.

The new Minimatik 39 Date watches are worn on a Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap in black or brown, and all are priced at EUR 2,680 or USD 3,220. For more details, please visit nomos-glashuette.com.

  1. Too bad you really have to really dig to find the magic via photo + press release—bc check out the math on these:
7.5mm thick with domed sapphire on top and see through caseback 😮
Also decentered radial striping and Sonnenschliff finishing on the back? Whew!

  2. Now, here’s a watch that gives minimalism a touch of elegance, with a movement and a date and small seconds function, at a price point that hasn’t gone completely sideways off the reasonable realm, although it’s still at the high end for what it is.
