The Superb Engraved Dial of The New Kudoke 3 Flakes

Kudoke's watch with triple-scale hour display now adorned with a handsome textured dial.

German watchmaker Stefan Kudoke has quickly made a name in independent watchmaking, establishing an eponymous Kudoke brand with a distinctive design language for handcrafted timepieces. In 2023, he introduced the Kudoke 3, which built on the success of the Kudoke 1 and Kudoke 2 designs while adding a unique twist – a split-level dial and a triple-scale hour display. As customary with artistically inclined small-scale indies, customization such as movement and upper dial plate decoration was mentioned, now the brand shows what it can offer, revealing Kudoke 3 Flakes.

The Kudoke 3 was an interesting addition to the brand’s growing collection, offering an unusual time display with three scales for the hours and a three-armed hour hand. Perfect to attract attention, but not the best in reading time at a glance, yet designed as an aesthetically pleasing timepiece, Kudoke 3 was received well.

The new edition of Kudoke 3 – the new Flakes – retains the case design and dimensions, 39mm diameter x 10,3mm thickness, made from stainless steel and fully polished (a gold case is optional, upon request). The three-scale hour display of Kudoke 3 is applied to the lower silver-plated dial level, and it is the upper dial plate, which together with the minute ring on top is fixed to the lower plate with the four screws, positioned as 10, 20, 40 and 50-minute marks, that is the highlight of this new version.

The Flakes edition is distinguished by the hand-engraved upper dial with a polished bevel, available in either yellow gold plating or a rhodium finish, crafted using the “Flakes” engraving technique, a process that involves delicately carving out tiny flakes of material – which feels similar in execution to the Chronomètre Artisans by Simon Brette. The result is a genuinely one-of-a-kind dial, with each piece carrying its unique texture and depth. For those seeking further personalization, Kudoke offers additional engraving techniques and custom motifs upon request, ensuring each watch becomes a deeply personal expression of craftsmanship.

The Kudoke 3 series relies upon the Kudoke Kaliber 1 movement, based on the Habring2 A11, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency and providing 46 hours of power reserve. The hand-engraved balance cock is decorated with an infinity symbol, it is also repeated as the counterweight of the minute hand and a 60-minute mark on the minutes ring.

The Kudoke 3 Flakes is offered on a leather or Alcantara strap, closed with a stainless steel buckle, rose gold and folding clasp in stainless steel are special order options. The price is EUR 12,434 excl. taxes. The watch is available directly from Kudoke. Please visit www.kudoke.eu for more information.
