The New Hublot Square Bang Tourbillon 4-Day Power Reserve in 3D Carbon
Hublot proves that a round peg fits perfectly in a square hole.

Following the detonation of Hublot’s extroverted Big Bang chronograph in 2005, the collection gradually expanded with several sub-families unified by their bold designs and distinctive fusion of materials. A couple of these sub-collections, like the Spirit of Big Bang with its tonneau-shaped case and the more recent Square Bang, departed from the round shape of the original Big Bang. Released in 2022, the Square Bang has, until now, featured in-house Unico chronograph movements. The latest Square Bang flexes its horological muscles and hosts a tourbillon regulator. Not only is it the first model in the family to boast a tourbillon, but it is also the first to feature a 3D carbon case, two hands and square bridges to match its silhouette.
To spread the components evenly across the square confines of the 42mm x 42mm Square Bang, Hublot has developed a manual-winding, skeletonised movement, suspended front and back by a network of square and rectangular bridges. Marking the first tourbillon to join the Square Bang, the case height has increased slightly to 13.2mm and the depth rating dropped to 30 metres.
Underscoring the geometry, the components are distributed over the four sides of the openworked square: winding components on the right, power reserve on the left, large barrel at noon and tourbillon at 6 o’clock. Suspended mid-air by the square and rectangular bridges, the skeletonised 174-part movement leaves nothing to the imagination. The round barrel, tourbillon, power reserve and wheels contrast dramatically with the strict geometry of the bridges.
The black-plated bridges, dotted with ruby jewels, are highlighted with alternating matte and brushed finishes. Time is indicated by skeletonised central hour and minute hands, and a square track on the periphery with applied indices hovering above the bridges and movement. To enhance legibility, the hands and indices are luminescent. The skeletonisation is pursued all the way to the triple-armed bridge of the tourbillon. The only display that breaks rank and is featured above the bridges is the power reserve indicator with a red warning area at 9 o’clock.
Celebrating the first tourbillon in the Square Bang family, the case is made entirely from a carbon composite woven on three planes into vertical and horizontal lines to form tiny 3D squares. Naturally, the six hallmark H-shaped titanium screws are featured on the carbon fibre bezel. Giving the watch a homogenous appearance, the 3D motif of the carbon fibre is also featured on the textured rubber strap. Equipped with a black ceramic and black-plated titanium deployant clasp, the integrated One-Click system enables quick and easy strap changes.
Powered by the MHUB6023 manual-winding calibre, the large mainspring inside the skeletonised barrel offers a robust four-day power reserve. To counter the negative effects of magnetism and temperature fluctuations, the tourbillon has a silicon escapement.
The Square Bang Tourbillon 4-Day Power Reserve is a standard production model and retails for CHF 95,000, EUR 109,000, USD 105,000 or GBP 91,000. More information at hublot.com.
