All the New Rolex 2022 Models in The Metal

Taking a quick look at the 2022 collection of the crown.

| By Brice Goulard | 3 min read |

Earlier this week, as part of our live coverage of the all the new watches released during Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022, we’ve of course shared the news about the main novelties unveiled by Rolex as part of its new collection – including the revamped Air King 126900, the new and surprising “Destro” Green-and-Black GMT-Master II 126720VTNR or the stunning platinum Day-Date 40 with ice blue dial, and for the first time a fluted platinum bezel. Without further explanations, here are the new models of Rolex for the 2022 collection live and on the wrist. And be sure that once the show is over, we’ll take a closer look at each model.

The Rolex Air King 126900

One of the most discussed watches in the recent history of the brand, the Air King always had a rather unique place in the collection. Mostly due to its dial, which is inspired by pilot’s watches, combining printed numerals every five minutes, a large triangle at 12 o’clock and 3-6-9 applied markers. And of course, some flashy colours on the logos.

Despite looking familiar, almost everything has changed this year. The case has been remodeled with sharper and straighter lugs and case bands, the bezel is thinner, the dial is larger, and there’s of course a new crown protection. As for the dial, the applied markers are now luminous, a new 05 appears too, and all printings are much thinner too. Inside is the modern calibre 3230 and the bracelet is equipped with Easylink comfort extension.

The Rolex GMT-Master II 126720VTNR

VTNR for “verte-noire” meaning a green-and-black bezel… But that’s not the biggest thing to see in the latest edition of the GMT-Master II. Made of Oystersteel, available either on Jubilee or Oyster bracelet, it pays tribute to rare prototypes created by the brand, and is equipped with a crown positioned on the left side.

To achieve this some adjustments had to be made to the movement (mostly the date mechanism) and the watch is now fitted with a new two-tone ceramic bezel – still 24h, still bidirectional – that is combining black with the brand’s signature colour; green. The overall look is special to say the least and the watch already caused some discussions. But at least, Rolex has been trying something new and bold. Otherwise, the new 126720VTNR retains all the elements of the previous editions of the GMT-Master II.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 42 Yellow Gold 226658

A less striking novelty, the Yacht-Master 42, which was first introduced in white gold in 2019, is now launched in classic yellow gold. Still using its unique ceramic bezel, with polished numerals in positive relief contrasting over a matte background, it adds warmth and luxury to this large watch.

The YM42 Yellow gold has the same dial, with oversized markers and hands that are now made of yellow gold too. And the watch retains its super comfortable rubber bracelet, the Oysterflex. No changes otherwise regarding the proportions or the movement.

The Rolex Day-Date 40 with Platinum Fluted Bezel 228236

The Day-Date was the was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial, and it has always been mad from precious metals. And the new model for 2022 doesn’t change this, with a full platinum model, equipped with the signature ice blue dial, and with a fluted bezel in platinum for the first time. Indeed, up until now, all platinum models at Rolex were either equipped with a smooth or a ceramic bezel.

This version comes with a beautiful light blue dial, with stylized applied Roman numerals and some touches of dark blue. It is equipped with the Calibre 3255 and is worn, as you’d expect, on a President bracelet, also in platinum.

  1. Been waiting for a real life pic of the Day-Date. Doesn’t disappoint.

  2. Haha. Reminds me of a childhood scenario, when my mother would admonish when I reached to pick up something in a store that was of interest; “look, but don’t touch!” Similar, albeit with a difference. Here, in collusion with the brand, you give us a look at shiny new things to generate interest, all of which are untouchable and will be unavailable. And the result, for which I am relieved to feel, unlike in childhood, is a complete lack of interest in any of the offerings. A shame perhaps, but welcome none-the-less.

  3. The new Air King is a nicer looking watch compared to the old model. But it looks huge on the pictures, damn. I can’t imagine it being comfortable on the wrist, unless the wrist ja larger than 7.5 inch.

  4. 2022 Rolex models??? Lol. My wife and I have each been on the Rolex waiting list for nearly 2 years. They can’t or won’t sell you anything new at any authorized dealer in the world right now!

  5. So Rolex makes a watch for lefties and you show a picture of the watch worn at the wrong arm?

  6. Nice summary, beautiful photography, but utterly irrelevant, because you can’t buy that stuff, unless you are willing to pay silly gray market prices.
In Eastern Germany, people had to wait 7 years and more to get their shabby Trabant car with a smokey two-stroke engine.
In today’s world you might have to wait a similar amount of time to get the RLX timepiece of your choosing. Is it worth the wait … ? Up to you …
