Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar with Rose “Salmon” Opaline Dial and Steel Case
Striking rose salmon dial, contrasting blue accents and steel case for a superb PanoMaticLunar.
It is not entirely new to see Saxon brand Glashütte Original launching more and more original watches. Previously rather classic and Teutonic in design, the brand explores new themes and new colours with recent collections. Even the most traditional watches, such as PanoMaticLunar, get more colourful editions, such as the recently presented rose gold with blue dial version. Well, there’s another one coming, and this time it really stands out. Meet the new Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Rose Opaline – yes, steel and salmon dial!
If you look at recent introductions by German manufacturer Glashütte Original, you’ll notice a clear move to colours and more daring designs – for instance, the new Seventies Chronograph Limited Editions, the Sixties Annual Edition Fiery Orange or the surprising dive collection, the SeaQ. And this arrival of colours not only affected the vintage-inspired collections but also the very traditional Senator and Pano collections. Already presented with a dark blue dial and red gold case earlier this year, the Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar, one of the brand’s cornerstone watches, sees a new limited edition on the horizon… And yes, it is made of stainless steel and features a striking salmon dial with blue accents.
Steel case, rose opaline “salmon” dial and blue accents…? Yes please!
Visually and mechanically, there are no specific evolutions concerning this watch. It is the same base as the steel/silver model we’ve extensively reviewed here. The PanoMaticLunar is a watch that is infused with German watchmaking, whether regarding its display, with its off-centred indications and use of the golden ratio to place the additional complications, its robust case or the design and technical solutions of its movement. GO at its best, if you will.
This new take on the PanoMaticLunar still measures 40mm in diameter and 12.7mm in height – it has quite an imposing presence, even though comfortable – and is presented in steel. The case has short, curved lugs and alternating brushed and polished surfaces.
Inside the case is the beautifully executed calibre 90.02, an in-house automatic movement with typical Saxon style. It features a 3/4 place with an off-centred oscillating weight, Glashütte ribbings, blued screws and the iconic duplex swan-neck fine adjustment, which is hand-engraved. The movement runs at 4Hz and boasts 42 hours of power reserve.
As for the display, we still have two off-centred dials on the left side, with hours and minutes on top, and slightly overlapping is the small seconds (with stop-seconds). The right side of the dial is reserved to complications, with the moon-phase indication at 2 o’clock and the signature Panorama Date, with two non-overlapping discs, at 4 ‘o’clock.
What’s new then for this PanoMaticLunar Limited Edition? Mostly its dial, which shows a metallic and slightly iridescent galvanized rose opaline colour – playing on the trend for salmon dials. This rosé colour is combined with multiple blue accents, on the hands, the applied indexes, the moon and the date discs. The alligator strap also picks up on this blue colour – note that a steel bracelet can also be fitted.
The (great-looking) Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Rose Opaline “Salmon” Steel is a limited edition of 50 pieces only, is available worldwide from all Glashütte Original Boutiques. It will be priced at EUR 9,400 on pin buckle, EUR 9,700 on fold fastener or EUR 10,800 on steel bracelet.
