An Eye-Catching Green Dial for the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle

Vacheron’s classical dress watch dons a contemporary suit.

| By Rebecca Doulton | 2 min read |

As the oldest manufacture in continuous production, Vacheron Constantin has an unrivalled heritage and a devotion to Haute Horlogerie traditions passed down from the 18th century. The Traditionnelle family is, as its name indicates, the brand’s repository of timeless, traditional models. Luckily, Vacheron is also sensitive to trends and fuses conventional features with modern touches to produce elegant, contemporary classics. A case in point is the latest pink gold Traditionnelle Manual-Winding with a colourful green sunburst dial. Unveiled during the Shanghai edition of Watches & Wonders 2023, this Traditionnelle model will be reserved exclusively for the Chinese market for a month.

Specific design features are intimately associated with the Traditionnelle family: round stepped case middle in precious metal with straight lugs, slender bezel and fluted caseback, railway-style minutes track, applied baton markers and elegant tapering Dauphine hands. Ranging from the most complex Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar to the Chronograph Tourbillon or from the Complete Calendar to a Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, the 38mm Traditionnelle Manual-Winding is the most straightforward model with hours, minutes and small seconds.

A perfect dress watch, the 38mm pink gold case of the Traditionnelle has a slim height of 7.77mm and amplifies its elegant profile with polished surfaces throughout. The novelty here is the eye-catching green colour of the dial that works exceptionally well with the pink gold case. It is not the first time the Traditionnelle collection flaunts a green dial. In 2021, the Traditionnelle Tourbillon featured an imperial green dial made exclusively for the Chinese market.

The dial’s silky texture results from the sunburst finish that plays with the light. Depending on the ambient light, the dial can change from radiant green to pine green and, in some situations, emit a dark green, almost black tone. To match the pink gold case, the faceted indices and hands are crafted in 18k rose gold. With its snailed interior and peripheral railway track, the small seconds counter is placed at 6 o’clock and indicated by a rose gold hand.

The sapphire caseback reveals the in-house manual-winding calibre 4400 AS with its signature high watchmaking finishings like the hand-bevelled bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève and circular graining on the base plate. With an ultra-slim height of 2.8mm, the movement beats at 28,800vph and delivers a power reserve of 65 hours.

The Traditionnelle Manual-Winding is presented on a green alligator strap with a calf lining and green stitching and attached to the wrist with a rose gold pin buckle with the signature half Maltese cross. As mentioned, the Traditionnelle Manual-Winding with green dial will be available exclusively in China for one month. The price is CHF 23,700.
