A new version of Chopard’s manual-winding chronograph with COSC chronometer certification and the Poinçon de Genève.
A new version of the L.U.C 1963 Heritage Chronograph joins Chopard’s high-end collection, created as a numbered limited edition of 25 pieces. While the model retains the classical proportions and specifications of the green 2023 model, this new reference is distinguished by a rich Prussian Blue dial, retaining the L.U.C 03.07-L calibre with exceptional finishing and recognised by both COSC chronometer certification and the Poinçon de Genève.
The 42mm case is crafted from Lucent Steel, Chopard’s proprietary steel alloy, and measures 11.48mm in height. Its design remains elegant and traditional, with a rounded profile, polished bezel, lugs and caseback contrasting with vertically satin-brushed flanks and inter-horn surfaces. Traditional pump-style pushers and an 8mm notched crown, all in Lucent Steel, complete the familiar chronograph construction. A glare-proof sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the display caseback provides a view of the manually wound calibre. Water resistance is 50m.
The dial, in a deep Prussian Blue (recently used for the L.U.C XPS), features an off-centred sunburst finish and snailed subdials. Large, rounded numerals around the periphery mark the chronograph seconds scale. The 30-minute register is positioned between 2 and 3 o’clock, and the 12-hour counter is positioned between 9 and 10 o’clock. Small seconds are at 6 o’clock. At 12 o’clock, below the L.U.C Chopard signature, the word “Chronometer” confirms the COSC certification. Rhodium-plated white gold Dauphine fusée-type hours and minutes hands indicate the time; for chronograph functions, rhodium-plated central Dauphine hand and faceted rhodium-plated triangle hands are used.
The watch is powered by the L.U.C 03.07-L, a fully integrated manual-winding chronograph calibre comprising 283 components. The movement was first introduced in 2014 in the L.U.C 1963 Chronograph, launched to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Scheufele family’s ownership of Chopard, and itself is an evolution of the Chopard Manufacture’s first chronograph movement from 2006. It features a column wheel, a vertical clutch and a flyback function. The movement incorporates several patented technical solutions, including a reset system using three pivoting hammers with elastic arms. Operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, it provides a comfortable 60-hour power reserve.
The two-toned calibre, with untreated German silver bridges, a gilded mainplate, and gilded bevelled angles, can be admired through the sapphire caseback. Côtes de Genève decorate the bridges, with circular graining on the mainplate and straight-grained finishing applied to the chronograph components.
The new L.U.C 1963 Heritage Chronograph is worn on a brown alligator leather strap, closed with a Lucent Steel pin buckle. It is limited to 25 numbered pieces and will be available exclusively through Chopard boutiques. The price should be the same as the green edition, meaning EUR 36,500.
