The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar Now Comes in Blue Titanium
The same record-setting extra-thin perpetual calendar from Bulgari arrives in monochromatic blue, and that is enough to make it feel new again.
When Bulgari launched the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar in 2021, it did what the Octo Finissimo line has done repeatedly over the past decade. It broke another record. At just 5.80mm thick, it became the world’s thinnest perpetual calendar wristwatch, a title it still holds today. Since then, we have seen it in its original titanium guise, followed by carbon gold and, more recently, a warm rose gold edition. Now, Bulgari is giving its record-setting perpetual calendar a new shade with a monochromatic blue titanium version. A limited edition, the new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar is more about a different look on the wrist. Blue has been used for this QP before, but never quite like this.
Mechanically, this is the same watch that won the Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2021. Its 40mm sandblasted titanium case remains just 5.80mm thick, a number that still feels slightly absurd for a perpetual calendar. One look and you can say the real novelty lies in the finish. This edition receives a blue PVD treatment that covers the case and gives the angular Octo architecture a different mood altogether. Other details include the polished stainless-steel crown with its black ceramic insert, the sapphire caseback, and the 30-metre water resistance.
A blue alligator strap is in line with the blue monochromatic theme, which continues on the blue varnished dial, where grey rhodium-plated hands and silvered indexes create contrast against the darker background. The retrograde date takes up the upper half of the dial, while the day and month displays make up the lower section, flanking the leap-year indicator at 6 o’clock. It is easy to forget that this is a perpetual calendar at all because it feels closer to a two-hander than a complicated piece of haute horlogerie.
Inside the new and blue Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar is the ultra-thin manufacture calibre BVL 305, which beats at 21,600 vibrations/hour and is based on the Octo Finissimo Automatic calibre BVL 138. Measuring only 2.75mm thick, the automatic movement displays the hours and minutes, a retrograde date, day, month, and leap year indications, all while delivering a 60-hour power reserve.
It may only add a new colour to an already familiar watch, but when that watch is still the world’s thinnest perpetual calendar, maybe that is all it really needed. The new Bulgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar in blue titanium is limited to 50 pieces and priced at EUR 76,000.
