A Baltic MR Classic for the Bangladesh Watch Club
A special edition of an accessible dress watch, from an unexpected part of the world.
The passion for watches has no borders, as we reiterated on multiple occasions. We have already covered several initiatives coming from the Emirates Watch Club, the Singapore Watch Club or the Qatar Watch Club. This time, though, it’s a special edition watch that comes from a slightly less obvious region of the world: Bangladesh. Created “to unite collectors through a shared passion for horology, education, and community,” the Bangladesh Watch Club was founded in 2017 and is now releasing its first dedicated watch, a green take on the Baltic MR Classic, with several references to the country that inspired it.
As explained by the Club, “our inaugural collaboration with Baltic is more than the creation of a timepiece – it is the realisation of a vision and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.” The watch, also named “The First Fifty” in reference to the number of pieces created, is built on the platform of the respected and appealing Baltic MR Classic, an accessible, vintage-inspired and compact take on the Calatrava style. Mechanically identical to the original model, powered by the same micro-rotor movement, the MR Classic for the Bangladesh Watch Club has several unique details to make it special.
The main difference from the classic models available from the French brand is the dial. A celebration of Bangladeshi heritage, it features a grained green dial that draws inspiration from the national flag, while the red central seconds hand offers a subtle nod to its iconic red disc. The dial also carries something unique and rarely seen in watchmaking: Bengali numerals, which are found at cardinal points and paired with baton markers. As with all MR models, the dial carries an off-set small seconds at 7 o’clock, giving it some originality. As for the case, it retains the classic 36mm x 10mm proportions, with a stepped flat polished bezel and a domed Hesalite glass. Inside is the Hangzhou CAL5000a automatic movement, wound by a micro-rotor. More details about the base model can be found here.
The Baltic MR Classic for the Bangladesh Watch Club is restricted to just 50 individually numbered timepieces, with each watch individually numbered and engraved. Reservations will be handled by the Bangladesh Watch Club, and the watch is priced at BDT 170,000. Deliveries are expected in February 2027. Importantly, these are reserved for members of the Club and will be delivered at a collectors’ dinner. For more details, consult bangladeshwatchclub.com.
Editor’s note: at the time of publication, all 50 pieces have been spoken for.
