Since its streamlined redesign in 2022, the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance has become the independent watchmaking brand‘s signature expression of one of the rarest mechanical phenomena in watchmaking. Without altering the movement, later editions have offered variations in colour and materials used, from the Manufacture Green and Ice Blue models to the warm rose gold version, the striking Ruby edition, and the special Zeitgeist anniversary piece – our favourite, if you ask. The latest Mirrored Force Resonance Red features a vivid red hand-guilloché dial, while the remarkable resonance mechanism remains untouched.

The stainless steel case measures 43mm in diameter, 11.55mm thick and 49.6mm lug-to-lug. Its relatively slim profile, box-shaped sapphire crystal and the signature lip at 6 o’clock maintain the more refined silhouette introduced with the current generation. The display caseback remains, and water resistance is 30m.

That dial, with a guilloché pattern crafted on a traditional rose-engine lathe, is finished in deep red and constantly changes character as the light moves across its surface. Black azuré chapter rings frame the twin seconds registers, and the off-centred hours-and-minutes display with faceted applied hour markers that appear to float above the guilloché. The contrast between the deep black rings and the vivid red centre gives the watch quite an energetic personality, more so than previous editions.

As always, the dial side is a showcase of mechanics. On the left side of the dial sit the two balance wheels, oscillating in opposite directions; the two regulating organs are linked via a finely engineered clutch spring, allowing continuous vibration exchange until the balances enter harmonic resonance. The twin seconds displays is a visual confirmation of this synchronisation. A pusher at 2 o’clock resets both seconds hands to zero, and the wearer can observe the two independent movements returning to perfect synchrony.

Power comes from the manufacture calibre ARF21, developed, produced and assembled entirely in-house. The manually wound movement incorporates two gear trains, two barrels, two escapements and two regulating organs within a single calibre. Operating at 25,200 vibrations/hour, it delivers a 48-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement showcases its distinctive construction and meticulous finishing. Frosted bridges, hand-polished bevels, perlage, circular graining and black-polished screws are complemented by raised three-dimensional inscriptions on the main plate.

The new Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Red is worn on a dark grey Alcantara strap with white stitching, closed with a steel pin buckle.  The watch is produced as a limited edition of 15 pieces and is priced at CHF 78,000. For more information, please visit arminstrom.com.
