The Armin Strom Dual Time GMT Resonance Aventurine (incl. Video)
Adding a celestial dimension to precision timekeeping, this new model combines scientific ingenuity with an emotional approach.
To our regular readers, Armin Strom needs no introduction. To those new to watchmaking, let’s say that over the past decade, the independent brand has established itself as one of the (very) few manufacturers to truly master resonance in a wristwatch. The Dual Time GMT Resonance has become one of Armin Strom’s signature platforms, evolving through multiple executions, from the white-gold First Edition released in 2024, through the steel-cased Black Edition, a version with tremblage decoration and the most recent, which paired a rose gold case with the black-gold coloured dial. The new Aventurine model brings a more expressive spirit to the series, with a dial that mirrors the depth of a star-filled sky.
The Dual Time GMT Resonance Aventurine is housed in a 39mm stainless steel case, just over 9mm thick, distinguished by the signature “lip” at 6 o’clock. The watch is quite compact given the complexity within, and the short lugs provide a comfortable, controlled fit on the wrist. The restrained exterior is intentional, allowing the dial and movement to take centre stage. Sapphire crystals on both sides open the watch to view, a reminder of the brand’s philosophy of transparency and mechanical exposure. The crowns at 4 and 8 o’clock allow independent setting of each time zone.
The dial defines this edition. Two sub-dials, each dedicated to an independent time zone, are made from aventurine; its deep blue surface is home to countless metallic inclusions, with a shifting, fluid sparkle under changing light. Both displays are framed by black azurage chapter rings, and poetic day/night indicators are integrated within each display. Rose gold-toned hands, the applied indices, and the rose gold-coloured mainplate beneath provide warmth and contrast and add coherence to the overall composition.
The Armin Strom Dual Time GMT series is powered by calibre ARF22, which remains one of the most compelling aspects of the watch. Developed and manufactured in-house, it features two independent regulating organs connected by the resonance clutch. This mechanism synchronises the oscillations of the balance wheels, which stabilise one another and improve overall rate consistency. The movement operates at 25,200 vibrations/hour (3.5Hz) and delivers a 42-hour power reserve.
The architecture of the carefully organised calibre is visible from both sides. On the dial side, the mirror-polished resonance bridge draws the eye, its hand-bevelled edges catching the light against the warmer tones of the mainplate. Rhodium-coated components introduce a cooler metallic contrast, while black-polished elements, perlage and circular graining make it more interesting. On the reverse, the bridges are decorated with Côtes de Genève. As with all Armin Strom watches, each piece is assembled twice to guarantee mechanical precision and finishing excellence.
The Dual Time GMT Resonance Aventurine is worn on a matte grey alligator strap, closed with a steel pin buckle. This edition is limited to 10 pieces; the price is CHF 105,000. More information at arminstrom.com.
