6 Recently Launched Crimson Red Watches

We are all very well aware of the fact green seems all the rage over the past few years. It is a trend that really gained momentum three, maybe four years back. Sure, prior to that we saw green dials as well, but nowadays they are everywhere. We’ve also noticed a shift towards other colours, something we’ve addressed before (here and here) and we welcome very much. One of the colours seemingly popping up and getting some love is red. The fiery tone can be seen on a number of new watches, with six of them listed in today’s Buying Guide.

TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Edition

One of the most recent crimson red wristwatches to be released is the TAG Heuer Carrera Red Dial Limited Edition. And although we haven’t seen it in person, the sunray brushed red dial sure seems to pop against the steel case. Being a Carrera, it features all the hallmarks that make this such a classic. It comes in a steel case measuring 39mm across and about 15mm in height (due to the box-shaped sapphire crystal). It has the typical Carrera-style lugs and a very slim bezel, opening up to that bright red dial. It relies on the in-house Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement, driven by a blackened rotor with red details. Limited to 600 pieces, it retails for EUR 6,400.

Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph Ducati Special Edition

If you look at cars and bikes, there’s a deep-rooted connection between Italy and the colour red. It is said to come from Prince Borghese’s red Itala in which he entered and won the 1907 Peking to Paris race. The recent partnership between Italian icons Bvlgari and Ducati sees the Rosso Corsa (or Ducati Red) being transferred to the dial of the Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph Ducati Special Edition. This lightweight watch measures 40mm across and comes with the signature Bvlgari Bvlgari black rubber bezel. The crown, pushers and caseback are black DLC-coated titanium. It relies on the Calibre BVL 130, based on the ETA 2894. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, the Bvlgari Aluminium Chronograph Ducati Special Edition costs EUR 5,000.

Circula SuperSport Red

It’s not often a dive watch is decked out in red, but surprisingly two made the list. First up is the Circula SuperSport Red, a limited edition based on the supercool SuperSport compressor dive watch. And when we say compressor dive watch, in this case, that is very much the real deal. The Circula SuperSport relies on the compressor construction, with a pressure-loaded spring in the caseback sealing the watch tighter the deeper it gets. The burgundy red dial for this limited edition gives it a whole new vibe and is encircled with a dark brown inner rotating bezel. Power comes from the Sellita SW 200-1 in élabore grade execution. Limited to 99 pieces, the Circula SuperSport Red starts at EUR 749.

MeisterSinger Pangaea Day Date

With the Pangaea, MeisterSinger expanded on the concept of the Perigraph by incorporating a fully visible wheel for the day of the week, next to a fully visible date wheel. This display has served the brand well as the Perigraph and Pangaea remain very popular. Earlier this year MeisterSinger mixed things up a little with two colourful versions of the Pangaea Day Date. One in teal blue/green, and one in burgundy red. The day and date discs, as well as the outer timing track are done in a deep red tone. The Sellita SW 220-1 is revealed through the sapphire crystal caseback, and the watch is worn on a black leather strap with pin buckle. The MeisterSinger Pangaea Day Date retails for EUR 2,090.

Nomos Tetra Neomatik 39

Next up is the only square case that made the list. The Nomos Tetra has always been a bit of an oddball from the German brand, but one that packs quite a bit of character. Nomos recently presented a quartet of limited editions, with one that truly stands out thanks to its bright red dial. Despite the fire-engine red colour, the watch remains legible thanks to its crisp numerals and slender polished steel hands. Powering the Nomos Tetra Neomatik 39 is the extra-thin Calibre DUW 3001, which is produced in-house. This is fitted with Nomos’ Swing System escapement, first launched in 2014. Each colour is limited to 175 pieces, comes on a Horween brown shell cordovan leather strap and retails for EUR 3,060.

Mido Ocean Star Gradient Tribute

We return to the aquatic world for the last red dial watch in this list. The very recently introduced Mido Ocean Star Gradient Tribute comes with delectable vintage vibes, a gradient red-to-black dial and an impressive movement. And best of all, it’s priced very competitively! The case measures a very modest 40.5mm in diameter, with 13.4mm in height (thanks to a box sapphire crystal). The unidirectional bezel has a black aluminium insert. The red dial plays host to the large indices and hands, both finished with white Super-LumiNova. On the right-hand side, we see a day-date display, courtesy of the Mido Calibre 80 (ETA C07.621 ) providing a healthy 80 hours of running time. Worn on a black Tropic-style rubber strap, it retails for CHF 870.
