The dive watch category is probably the single most popular watch. Its design homogeneity, marked by an abundance of homage models, is quite striking. For this reason, it is always interesting to see something different. Now launching on Kickstarter, the Legatodiver does rely on some of the traditional codes or features of the category. Yet, this guitar-inspired model provides its own offbeat take on the dive watch. Let’s take a closer look.

The Legatodiver is a project by MW Timepieces, created by a design team called MaestroWorks Studio in Jakarta, Indonesia. The team members being watch aficionados, their first design project ended up being a wristwatch. Now launching on Kickstarter, this new watch is presented as a “modern-classic dive watch with a musical approach.

Starting from the utilitarian perspective, the Legatodiver does feature solid aquatic credentials. As you would expect from a fully-equipped dive watch, the model offers substantial water resistance with a 300m rating. Its 39.5mm 316L brushed steel case is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel (120 clicks) to time dives. The ridged edge will help you grip without slipping. The generous application of luminescent material (bezel, dial, hands, crown) aims at offering optimal legibility in all conditions.

Yet, the originality of the project lies in its musical inspiration. After all, music is about keeping time. The bezel design is drawn from a guitar fretboard with a flat sapphire insert inlaid with guitar strings. These feature a luminescent finishing so they actually pop out in the dark. Turning the watch over, the musical inspiration continues with an exhibition caseback reminding of a guitar soundhole. The exhibition case back sapphire crystal is printed with guitar strings while its periphery is richly engraved.

The MW Timepieces Legatodiver is powered by the tried-and-tested Sellita SW200-1. This well-known Swiss automatic movement ticks at 4Hz with a 38-hour power reserve. It displays the hours, minutes, seconds and the date. If the movement decoration is relatively simple, the movement is modified with a date wheel featuring lume. This is an original touch you would not necessarily expect from a micro-brand, specifically for such an affordable price.

The Legatodiver is worn on a three-link steel bracelet. Particular attention was given to its flexibility with fully articulated links. It is secured to the wrist with a double-locking folding clasp. There’s also a quick-release system to allow for a leather strap option, which is a nice touch.

The model is available in different variants, black, blue, teal and white – with a fully luminescent dial for the latter. Finally, the RED-LEGATO, available only on Kickstarter, features a red bezel paired with a white dial.

The MW Timepieces Legatodiver is now available for pre-order on Kickstarter. Price is set at USD 489 for super early birds, USD 509 for early birds and then USD 529 as a Kickstarter special. Besides the steel bracelet, the package includes a spare leather strap. The watch is delivered in a wooden box and comes with a two-year international warranty. Overall, this seems excellent value for money given the watch’s specifications.

  1. Do not buy from MW timepieces.
I placed early bird order in October 2021 but have never received the product. Seller (Adrian) kept coming up with excuses of product being delayed in production and making false promises about refunding the money. Still waiting for refund until today, however no update and no more replies on my follow up. I am from Indonesia and am very disappointed to see an Indonesian public figure being this dishonest and scam other people’s hard earned money.

  2. Hi ,
    Important information,
Adrian in youtube channels (Horology story). Please be aware!! Adrian took money from a lot of people from his kickstarter Legato Diver watch (MW Timepieces/Timeindo) project 2yr ago which he didn’t deliver, and still hasn’t refunded money to many of us.

In his last announcement on MW Timepiece website, he promised to refund by end of January 2024 but he failed again. Note that he had made many other false promises prior to this. Many others are on the same boat as I am feeling helpless and disappointed. We all put our genuine support towards his project but only to get scammed. I am just writing to warn others so they don’t have to experience the same thing. Do not buy from this guy!

  3. Beware of Adrian!

He barely do updates and replies to email regarding the Legatodiver project. Moreover, he also keep on stalling his duty to deliver the watch or refunded by making excuses and false promises. He betrayed all of the backers that supported his project and dream.

While there is barely any update on the project, he keep on running his youtube channel (Horology Story). Legatodiver project also popped up in his channel several times while it was on campaign, after the project was going south, the project is never mentioned again in his youtube channel. It’s like he has abandoned Legatodiver project and backers.

I would suggest to be cautious when dealing with this guy, whether it is from MW Timepieces or with Horology Story, as their management is under the same man and that very man has a very disappointing track records.
