The new Tudor Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue
We had the pink, and now there's a flamingo blue (turquoise/Tiffany) version!
Well, as far as we know Flamingos aren’t blue. As far as we know, the previous hit of Tudor was pink, and yet it wasn’t named Flamingo… Try to understand. Or simply just enjoy yet another unconventional and fun watch by Tudor. Following the highly-discussed and sought-after Black Bay Chrono Pink last year, which somehow matched David Beckham’s football team, Inter Miami FC, the brand is back with yet another cool model, this time in a bright tone of blue/turquoise, the Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue. And it’s not really a surprise since the second jersey of Inter Miami FC is done in a pretty identical colour. Let’s discover this new BB Chrono with a South Beach vibe, breaking that gloomy winter feeling!
What do we have to know here… Well, not much has changed compared to either the slightly crazy Black Bay Chrono Pink, the Black Bay Chrono Blue or, for that matter, any other edition of the Black Bay Chrono. So before we move to the news of the day, let’s first recap what we know about the watch itself. A large, sporty model that mixes diving and racing elements, the Black Bay Chrono measures 41mm in diameter, 14.2mm in height and is 49.9mm lug-to-lug. It’s made of steel, with brushed surfaces on top and polished accents (sides and lateral bevels), it’s topped by a box-shaped sapphire crystal, features a screw-down crown and screwed pushers, has a closed caseback and is water-resistant to a rather solid 200m.
Inside the case is the calibre MT5813, a manufacture movement based on Breitling B01 (since the industrial alliance between Tudor and Breitling). A modern and technically advanced movement, this integrated automatic chronograph relies on a column wheel and a vertical clutch. It’s COSC certified and comes with a variable inertia balance and a silicon balance spring, running at a 4Hz frequency – this one isn’t yet certified by the Master Chronometer standard. The power reserve is rated at 70 hours and the display is the same as all other BB Chrono editions, with two counters and a date window at 6 o’clock.
What’s new then… Well, the obvious evolution on this Tudor Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue is the colour of the dial. Just like the Black Bay Chrono Pink, this new edition plays on bright summery tones – the Miami vibe – with a turquoise (should we call it a bit Tiffany…? yes it is) colour. Like the pink edition, it’s paired with a black aluminium tachymeter scale and black sub-counters for the chronograph and small seconds. The date is done in white and all markers and hands are rhodium-plated and filled with white Super-Luminova. So why Flamingo Blue…? Maybe a reference to the tropical waters flamingos are known to love…? Who cares, this new edition once again looks fresh and cool, and I have no doubt about its immediate and future desirability.
Just like the Pink and Blue editions, the Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue comes on a 5-link jubilee steel bracelet – adding a slightly retro touch that works well with this turquoise dial – which is closed by a folding clasp with T-Fit micro-adjustment.
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue (reference M79360N-0024) is released now and isn’t a limited edition. However, if the brand does apply the same policy as the Pink edition, it won’t be an easy watch to obtain. It is priced at EUR 5,930. For more details, please visit tudorwatch.com.
