This weekend, together with our friends at Reijersen Juweliers, a retailer based in the city of Oudewater and specialising in many of our favourite independent brands and rare limited editions, we’ll be hosting the annual “Taste of Time” event. For the third edition of this show, which focuses on independent watchmaking, Reijersen will be teaming up with one of its oldest partners, Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw. And for the occasion, one of my favourite Dutch-themed watches, the Eclipse, with the Church and Windmill over the moon phase, somehow makes a comeback with the new Ariadne Holland Edition. Very Dutch, and available for ordering during Taste of Time!

Christiaan Van der Klaauw Planetarium 2000 Collector's Talk

To resurrect one of the most charming watches ever made by CvdK, the Eclipse, a watch that carries a special place in my Dutch heart, Christiaan van der Klaauw and Reijersen are once again relying on the Ariadne model, which has already served as a base for a previous limited edition. As such, it relies on the same steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and the brand’s classic design codes, such as the polished, domed surfaces, the straight lugs with screw-like cabochon, and the onion-shaped crown paired with double-gadroon pushers. The back will reveal the same base movement as before, a calendar and moon phase version of the Valjoux 7750 (calibre 7751) wound by a rotor made by engraver Jochen Benzinger with a guilloché pattern and a hand-engraved gold-plated sun.

What sets the Ariadne Holland Edition apart is the dial. As specified by Reijersen (and maybe a bit by me too…), the opening over the moon phase disc resurrects the Dutch-inspired combination of a church and windmill that made the Eclipse special. Available in turquoise or silver, the dial retains the same display with chronograph (and classic Dutch orange touches), a 24-hour indicator, a moon phase, a peripheral date by hand and the month and day-of-the-week indications, which are here written in Dutch.

On both editions of the Ariadne Holland for Reijersen, the hands and applied Breguet numerals are blue, and the “Sun with 12 Claws”, the brand’s logo, is inserted at 3 o’clock. Both are available on textile straps in either blue or orange.

The Christiaan van der Klaauw Ariadne Holland Edition will be available for ordering during the third Taste of Time event, on Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th, and will be priced at EUR 10,990. For more details, please visit www.klaauw.com and reijersenjuweliers.nl.
