For its 100 years, Nivada Grenchen gives the F77 MKII a more premium mechanical specification, with seven natural stone dial choices.
Relaunched in 2020 under Guillaume Laidet’s creative direction (also behind the Vulcain and Space One brands), now-100-year-old Nivada Grenchen has focused on historical models, updating vintage references without losing their original character. Alongside the Antarctic and the Chrononomaster collections, the F77, inspired by the integrated sports watches of the 1970s, leads the pack. It returned in 2023 with a faithful interpretation of the original design, followed in 2024 by stone-dial and titanium versions, and in 2025 by the more comfortable, redesigned F77 MKII. After more dial variations presented earlier this year, the F77 MKII now enters a new chapter for the brand, launching several natural stone dials, now with a La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement inside.
The F77 MKII retains its compact 38mm stainless-steel case and integrated bracelet; its architecture is clearly inspired by 1970s sports watches, with sharp lines and a mix of vertically brushed and polished surfaces. For this new generation and thanks to the new movement, the case drops down to 11.5mm thick (including the double-domed sapphire crystal), making it slimmer than the previous version (12.2mm). The proportions are substantial enough to preserve the F77’s sporty presence, but the watches are comfortable on the wrist. A sapphire exhibition caseback (with anniversary engraving marking the 100-year milestone) replaces the closed back used on earlier versions, opening to view the new movement. The octagonal bezel and 6mm crown remain. Water resistance is 100m, unchanged.
The new series introduces natural stones, with six permanent versions joining the F77 MKII range: Azurite, Labradorite, Jade, Black Opal, Shungite Black and Smoky Quartz. Azurite brings intense blue mineral formations and naturally abstract patterning, while Labradorite is known for deep blue tones and flashes of shifting iridescence. Jade is about the rich green colour and smoother organic texture.
Black Opal is the most dramatic variation, with flashes of blue, green, red and violet emerging from a dark base depending on the angle. Shungite Black seems more restrained, with a deep matte appearance and subtle texture, and the Smoky Quartz brings warmer brown-grey tones. The Ice Agate with its pale blue-and-white layered appearance is reserved for the centenary edition, limited to 100 pieces.
As with the F77 generally, the watch remains simple in function, with hours, minutes and central seconds. Openworked baton hands are paired with faceted applied indices and small Super-LumiNova dots around the periphery.
The movement is the most important update. Nivada Grenchen replaces the Soprod P024 automatic movement used in the previous F77 MKII series with the thinner and more powerful La Joux-Perret G101, bringing 68 hours of autonomy, up from Soprod’s 42 hours. The G101 is a true no-date evolution of the G100, an alternative to the ETA 2824-2 and Sellita SW200-1. The operating frequency is 28,800 vibrations/hour; the calibre is equipped with a tungsten rotor for unidirectional winding and a KIF anti-shock system.
The integrated stainless-steel bracelet’s clasp has tool-free micro-adjustments, as before. Alternative options include a canvas Velcro strap and a black rubber strap, giving the same case a choice of more casual expressions.
