The New GoS by Martin Key, Sweden’s Prominent Fashion Designer
Calling it a watch is only partially correct; it is an artistic object from Scandinavia and packs a lot of character.
With Patrik Sjögren, the Master Watchmaker at the helm and Conny Persson, the Bladesmith producing the intricate hand-forged Damascus steel, the Swedish watchmaking brand GoS continues to amaze. Infusing Scandinavian folklore, nature themes and traditional crafts into their creations, GoS watches are distinguished by their intricate patterns and story-telling details. The new GoS timepiece is a result of a collaboration with fashion designer Martin Key, known for his customised leather jackets, ready-to-wear leather goods and accessories. Please welcome the new “GoS designed by Martin Key”, a watch that merges Key’s design style with the signature features of GoS timepieces.
Those familiar with GoS will recognise the stainless steel case of this new watch, inspired by the updated GoS Sarek collection. The case measures 41.5mm in diameter, stands 11mm thick, and has a lug-to-lug of 49.5mm. It features a black PVD coating and a bezel with a satin-finished top and polished edges. The lugs maintain a straight satin finish on top, with polished sides, while the midcase is adorned with vertical grooves. The signature GoS crown, polished to a high gloss, features bead-blasted grooves on its sides and a triskele symbol on its concave top. The watch is water-resistant to 50 meters and has a display caseback, secured with six screws.
The domed sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating allows an uninterrupted view of the artistry below, where Martin Key’s signature shapes and colours blend with GoS’s hallmark dial design. The dial base is crafted from hand-forged Damascus steel, treated with a dark finish to highlight its intricate eight-beaded wildflower pattern. A deep-chamfered octagonal index ring – a nod to Key’s favourite shape and hallmark (he wears an AP Royal Oak Offshore as seen in this video) – is crafted from gold and adorned with twelve diamonds, four purple and eight black to mark the hours. Completing the look, spear-shaped hour and minute hands, polished to a deep black, pair with a central seconds hand with a small spear counterweight.
Martin Key’s input continues onto the caseback, which is engraved with an image of a zipper, which, as Key explains, “symbolizes the paths we take in life, which can be as smooth and effortless as a well-functioning zipper but also met with obstacles and unexpected turns. Much like a zipper that may get stuck and need replacing, it mirrors life’s challenges and adventures and the resilience required to move past them”.
The new GoS by Martin Key is powered by the La Joux Perret G101 automatic movement, specially crafted to GoS’s specifications. It features an anthracite finish and a skeletonised, bevelled tungsten rotor with a purple nano-ceramic coating, adding a distinct touch of Key’s signature colour. Completing the design, the rotor is adorned with a gold-finished GoS triskele emblem.
The GoS by Martin Key is offered on a handcrafted premium salmon leather strap secured with a folding buckle engraved with an octagon. This year’s edition is limited to four pieces only, with eight per year after. The watches can be purchased exclusively from Martin Key’s boutique in Stockholm or the GoS Watches atelier in Linköping. The price is USD 18,000 (plus appl. taxes).
