The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox goes Precious
New powdery pink or blue dials exchange the classic tachymetre scale for a sprinkling of scintillating diamonds.
TAG Heuer’s Carrera has been basking in the limelight for 62 years now, a timeless racing-inspired chronograph designed by Jack Heuer in 1963, named after the Carrera Panamericana Road race. Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2023, TAG Heuer introduced a compact 39mm edition of the Carrera with a pronounced domed sapphire crystal, imitating the look of the curved acrylic crystals used on Carreras in the 1960s and 1970s. As part of the LVMH Watch Week 2025 novelties, TAG Heuer releases two Carrera Chronograph Glassbox editions embellished with diamonds.
A smash hit, the Carrera Glassbox, like the original Carrera, comes with a tricompax or bicompax layout and classic pump-style pushers. The new precious models have a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour totaliser at 9 o’clock, with silver frames and circular snailed interiors. The running seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock doesn’t have a counter per se but is discreetly relayed by printed markings.
The 39mm stainless steel Carrera case has a thickness of 13.86mm and features the signature faceted lugs of the original Carrera. The 100m water-resistant case has sporty vertical-brushed finishes on the flanks and polished top surfaces, pushers and crown.
Jack Heuer’s design for the Carrera used the flange to relay vital information, dispensing with the need for a bezel, a feature the bezel-free Glassbox models have adopted. Unlike other bicompax editions with the tachymetre scale printed on the flange, the new models forgo the numerals but retain the precision minutes/seconds track. Instead of the numerals, the latest models flaunt 72 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the flange. Protected by the domed sapphire crystal that rises above and over the case and produces fun distortions, the diamonds can be enjoyed from all angles.
Available in powder pink or classic blue dials with a circular brushed finish, the sloping area of the flange has 11 diamond indices set in chatons. The index at 6 o’clock is suppressed to accommodate the rectangular framed date window. All the hands are rhodium-plated and polished, and the hour and minute hands have a thin luminescent insert.
The Carrera Chronographs are powered by the calibre TH20-00, an updated Heuer 02 automatic movement with bi-directional winding, a vertical clutch and column wheel. This movement delivers a robust 80 hours of power reserve and can be seen through the screw-down sapphire crystal caseback.
The blue model is paired with a dark blue alligator strap, and the powdery pink with a matching calfskin strap. Both straps have a pearlescent finish, a folding clasp and an interchangeable system. The powdery pink Carrera Chronograph retails for CHF 8,400, while the blue dial retails for CHF 8,500.

The Swarovski edition? Sorry, I was mistaken. Held my breath for a moment and finished the headline in my mind with ‘…metals’, but when I came across ‘stainless steel’ I dropped out.
